Mission: The mission of lambda archives of san diego is to collect, preserve, and teach the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the san diego and northern baja california region.
Programs: During the reporting year, the organization employed two part-time professionally-trained archivists and an office manager. The organization presented five "out at the archives" events, bringing the stories from our history to life. Each event drew an average of 50 attendees. We welcomed over 200 visitors to the archives as well as 12 researchers. We welcomed over 160 high-school students to check out our collections as part of a partnership with diversionary theatre where they attended live performances. Based on the success of the first year, we expanded our "history of hillcrest" walking tours initiative with over 10 tours gathering more than 130 persons. We trained a dozen students in the processing and preservation of approximately 40,000 photos. We continued to collaborate with the san diego unified school district and provided research assistance to educators who are preparing a curriculum to support the fair act. We staffed tables at pride, south bay pride, the center, sdsu and other local events. We conducted 40 oral history video interviews to our archives.
