Mission: Education. We prepare students for lives of extraordinary leadership and service by linking transformative experiential learning opportunities to rigorous academic programs in engineering, science, mathematics, and business. Founded in 1919 by a group of flint leaders with a vision for transforming the automobile industry, kettering university today offers 14 undergraduate degrees, 5 graduate degrees, and a variety of concentrations and minors that allow us to deliver an education that couples theory and practice better than any other institution in the world. At kettering we are dedicated to achieving the extraordinary through technological innovation, leadership and service. Through growth, global leadership, community outreach and an engaged community of stakeholders we are achieving what we aspire to. Our every action is imbued by a set of values that foster respect, integrity, creativity, collaboration and excellence.
Programs: Undergraduate instruction. Delivered 66,245 undergraduate student credit hours of instruction (one student credit hour represents 10 hours of instruction for one student). Awarded 320 baccalaureate degrees in 15 different programs.
graduate instruction. Delivered 7,910 graduate student credit hours of instruction (one student credit hour represents 10 hours of instruction for one student). Awarded 156 master's degrees in 6 different programs.
research. Top three projects: mri acquisition of high resolution transmission electron microscope (hrtem) to enhance the materials science and nanotechnology research and teaching. Installation of jeol jem-2100 plus high-resolution transmission electron microscope completed. Research includes investigations into novel materials for advanced batteries, fuel cell materials, super-capacitors, thin-film coatings, bio-composites, bacterial magnetosomes, and magnetic nanoparticles for hyperthermia treatment of cancer among others. While many specialized instruments are needed to support these ongoing projects, the unavailability of a tem seriously limits the scope of this research as it is the only instrument capable of direct imaging and size determination of the broadest range of nanostructures. In addition to the advantages a tem will bring to ongoing research at kettering university, it will also have a broad education impact as well. Current courses at kettering university that have been positively impacted by this instrument include chme-491 (nanomaterials), and ep-342 (materials science and nanotechnology). In addition to these courses, many others such as phys-378 (spectroscopy & microscopy). Ep-446 (solid state physics), phys-495 (research in physics) have plans to include this instrument in their curricula. Department of justice byrne innovation "renew the avenue". Goals of program are to reduce crime in the university ave corridor by 20%, reduce blight by 50% and increase community participation in social events. Nsf mri acquisition of a 3d digital image correlation systems to enhance research and teaching. The nsf mri award was used to purchase a high-speed digital image correlation (dic) system. The dic system is currently located in the nvh and experimental mechanics laboratory (nvhem lab). Senior personnel have been using this system to accomplish their research. Up to now, five graduate students have used this system to complete their theses. The efforts are published in two journal articles and six conference papers (there are other papers in progress). Furthermore, this system has been used in three graduate and undergraduate courses including experimental mechanics, experimental nvh, and physical acoustics.
all other program services includes academic support, student services, institutional services, and auxiliary services.
