Mission: Kpts is your publicly owned television station that educates, engages, entertains and enriches kansans through quality programming and civic leadership. Our vision-kpts strives to reflect the diversity of the region's population and breadth of its interests. Kpts satisfies programming needs that are not being met by other media services. Kpts utilizes the potential of television to educate, inform, entertain and engage. Kpts enriches viewers of all ages an in all walks of life by illuminating the challenges faced by society and presenting civilization's highest achievements.
Programs: Contentkpts is your publicly-owned television station that educates, engages, entertains, and enriches kansans. In addition to quality programming from pbs, kpts also broadcasts programming from other sources including the national educational telecommunications association, american public television, the bbc, and other program providers. Kpts produced the governor's annual state of the state address. Kpts also works with other local producers to broadcast programs including street rodding american style and harvesting the high plains. Street rodding american style is produced by david wolfe, owner of water house productions, a wichita-area leader in corporate and broadcast production. Each week this program visits area car shows and spotlights street rods as well as some of the tips and tricks of customizing and restoring classic cars and trucks. Kpts has also partnered with the tallgrass film festival to encourage and broadcast films produced by kansas filmmakers. Productions submitted are reviewed to meet kpts standards for quality and content. Recently produced documentaries include brands born here, wichita now, piatt street, david parks gi diary, wichita vortex, lost theaters of wichita and numerous short videos for veterans coming home and the positively wichita brand. Local content is broadcast on two of kpts' three digital channels: 8. 1 and 8. 2. Many local productions are also available for viewing online at kpts. Org.
technologya significant portion of kpts' mission is derived through the use of technology. Kpts began broadcasting on its new digital transmitter monday, february 16, 2009 at 10:00 a. M. Server technology upgrades were made in fiscal year 2014 and a low power broadcast was added in the wichita area to improve reception in the southeast quadrant of the coverage area beginning november 10, 2013. A new microwave stl system was installed in fiscal year 2016.
