The award-winning storytelling organization, the Wichita Griots Storytellers celebrated 20 years of providing literacy, storytelling and cultural arts to the Wichita community. To commemorate this milestone year, the Griots hosted a community-wide celebration at the Advanced Learning Library on March 15, 2019.
Stories were told in voice, music and cultural dance to almost 200 in attendance. Nationally renowned Poetic storyteller, Oba King was the featured guest.
The Griots storytellers are committed to keeping the oral tradition of the ancient art form of storytelling alive. The goal is to use art to teach literacy, while inspiring and empowering all youth, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizen.
