Causes: Education, Primary & Elementary Schools
Mission: John w. Lavelle preparatory charter school provides a rigorous college preparatory education that equips and empowers students to graduate with a foundation to attend and succeed in college and life. Lavelle prep welcomes all students, including those living with emotional challenges, students with disabilities and english language learners. As of july 1, 2017, lavelle prep is a school within the newly merged integration charter school (ics) network. Ics is dedicated to providing innovative pathways to college that fully integrate students living with emotional challenges and others with special needs. In building a network of associated schools which share this common mission, ics strives to fill gaps in public education. When fully realized, ics, in conjunction with the local public schools, will provide staten island parents of special needs children with an array of options which is richer than that enjoyed by any other community in the united states.
Programs: In fiscal year 2016-2017, lavelle prep welcomed its inaugural elementary school class, as grades 3, 4 and 5 were added throughout elementary expansion. Lavelle prep also continued with its third year of the tclp program granted by the us department of state, which provides students with an opportunity to study and acquire world languages, specifically arabic. In fiscal year 2016-2017students also continued to utilize accessible technology in each and every class, as our program of having one laptop per student in middle school and one tablet per student in high school continued to be utilized through daily instructionlavelle prep achieved an average attendance rate of 93% which exceeds the average attendance rate for both the city and our comparison group. The high school proudly achieved a 96% graduation rate, and 92% of all high school students earned at least 10 credits for the academic year.
