Mission: Jefferson Academy of Music, an original member of the Metropolitan Learning Community in Columbus, was founded in 1979. The name honors Thomas Jefferson, one of the nation's earliest devotees of the arts, and himself a violinist. It was established for these four purposes: 1. To search out and foster the deveopment of superior talent in the playing of a musical instrument. 2. To establish a center of excellence in teaching of string and piano music. 3. To act as a community educational resource for talented individuals or groups, both professional and amateur, who wish to upgrade their performance capabilities; and 4. To make available to the community the experience and talent of outstanding professional musicians within an educational framework.
