Mission: The james renwick alliance is an independent national non-profit organization that celebrates the achievements of america's craft artists and fosters scholarship, education, connoisseurship and public appreciation of craft art. Founded in 1982, the alliance fulfills its mission through public programs, educational trips, publications, recognition of craft artists, and financial support of museums and other non-profit organizations, including the renwick gallery of the smithsonian american art museum.
Programs: Contributions to the renwick gallery of the smithsonian american art museum in support of contemporary american craft art through programs in education and outreach, scholarly research, creation and hosting of special exhibitions, and acquisitions for the permanent collection. Also, provide funds for publication of the 40 over 40 catalog. Craft study tours and workshops provide unique programs in craft study and art appreciation to promote contemporary craft art to jra members and to the general public. Also provides opportunities for living artists and scholars in the field to teach technique and appreciation through discussions, lectures, and art workshops.
