Mission: The mission of international house is to enable selected graduate students and interns from countries around the world to live and learn together in a challenging and supportive residential community in new york city that builds life-long qualities of leadership, tolerance, respect and friendship among individuals of all nations and backgrounds. This independent, non-profit organization achieves its mission by daily interaction among its residents and other members through programs, facilities, and residential life designed to foster diversity of thought and experience, and to prepare our residents as alumni to meet the challeneges of an interdependent world.
Programs: International house is a residential and programmatic community devoted to the mission of promoting cross-cultural understanding for 750-900 carefully selected international and american graduate students and post-graduate trainees from over 100 countries. The resident members study or train at over 60 nyc-area institutions in a wide range of disciplines. In addition, over 400 non-resident, affiliate and alumni members participate in i. House events and programs designed to achieve the mission.
international house offers programmatic facilities and auxiliary services. They include programs & resident life office, resident suuport services including counseling, crisis intervention and referrals, fitness center, gymnasium, auditorium, pub, study center, music practice rooms (8), computer lab, tv lounges (2), special events and programmtic rooms (7), guest facilities (11), storage facilities, bike room, various floor lounges (16), dining service, mail service, laundry service, vending, phone, internet.
international house offers education, social, cultural and health programming and leadership training to promote cross-cultural understanding, including orientation and training programs, women international leadership program, international leaders program, distinguished speaker programs (marshall visitor, david rockefeller international visitor, j j mccloy visitor, patricia m cloherty visitor, john c whitehead corporate series, leadership in the arts, international forum), language exchange programs, fall fiesta and all nations celebration. Balls and dancing activities, community weekends, meet your trustees, resident recitals, salon nights, roundtables, sunday suppers, ih tutorial program, walk on wall street, alumni professional interest meetings, etc. (approx. 25 categories of programs)
