Nonprofit Overview

Causes: International, International Cultural Exchange, International Exchange

Mission: Ifca's mission is to create opportunities for the united states and japan to engage in discussions and activities to better the child welfare system by accomplishing the following: 1. Creating a venue for both countries' current foster youth and foster care alumni to express their voices and to connect with one another. 2. Generating opportunities for both countries' caregivers and child welfare professionals to exchange ideas to better the system of protecting children.

Programs: In 2014, the ifca put on numerous conferences, events, and workshops including the japan team's event on youth rights in tokyo and the trauma- focused cognitive behavioral therapy workshop in tokyo. The us had 40 event and training participants, while japan had 440. Additonally, the japan team visted the us in june where the teams collaborated on the first "youth summit in seattle", a strategic sharing workshop. They also participated in roundtable discussions with youth rights specialists, and held a retreat in which members of both teams set their own vision and goals for the future together. Also, the us team visited japan in september, where they visited eight facilities, held two youth summits, one strategic sharing workshop and one press conference, spoke at a world wide child abuse scholastic convention, and played a leadership role at a world youth conference.
