Programs: Michigan public health institute 1,000 grandmothers program continued effort to reach native grandmothers to provide sudden unexpected infant death education to younger tribal women. The project worked with 4 tribes to reach 40 grandmothers and 44 young mothers with suid prevention messages. Grant services began in 2013 and will be completed in 2015.
united states administration on aging aoa senior medicare patrol smp integration grant finalized outreach toolkit with background on american indian/alaska native, outreach strategies and resource materials for smp program grantees. Convened a workgroup of 17 smp programs across the country to provide education on aian outreach strategies and test toolkit content. Presented at national conference to all 54 smp grantees. Conducted presentations on the toolkit to 4 national tribal/indian advocacy organizations. Smps testing toolkit materials reached approximately 150 tribal members. Grant services began in 2013 and will be completed in 2015.
