Mission: The Institute for Multi-Track Diplomacy was founded in 1992 and is a non-profit, independent, non-governmental organization under section 501(c)(3) based in Washington D.C. IMTD is a multi-disciplinary view of peacebuilding. "Multi-Track Diplomacy" refers to nine areas or tracks that together comprise the system of international peacemaking. It assumes that individuals and organizations are more effective working together than separately, and that ethnic and regional conflict situation involve a large and intricate web of parties and factors that requires a systems approach. Each track in the system brings with it its own perspective, approach, and resources, all of which must be called on in the peace building process.
