The mission of insight for the blind is to help improve the quality of life for blind and visually impaired children and adults by promoting literacy and learning and aiding in the appreciation for reading through our production of audio books, magazines and articles and by working with, and maintaining the standards of, the library of congress talking books program. We send out master digital recordings from our studio to the library of congress in washington and the florida division of blind services in daytona beach. These institutes reproduce the material onto proprietary cartridges, which are then distributed nationally. Insight for the blind recorded 80+ issues of assigned magazines and exceeded our quota of recorded books. During the year ended june 30, 2017, there were approximately 125 volunteers who provided about 12,000 hours of service to assist in accomplishing these achievements.
