FLCT has been unbelievable opportunity for my daughter to channel her creative zany-ness. I don't know what she would have done without it. The staff, directors, teachers are 100% focused on bringing out the best in your child. I highly recommend this organization!

My kids have been In theatre for about 10 years now. Our youngest started with FLCT 3 years ago. Best decision we have ever made. He has learned so much.
They are so professional, loving, patient. They do so much for the community; they also teach the kids the importance of volunteering and giving.
FLCT is not just a theatre program, is a family

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is amazing beyond words. My oldest daughter began classes here when she was four - and it has changed our lives! My youngest just began with the 4-5 year old classes and we will be a FLCT family for life. Their staff is incredibly supportive & kind and their teachers are brilliantly talented. Looking forward to all the years to come watching our children grow and learn here.

As someone who was raised in the theatre, I was thrilled when my daughter wanted to start performing, but I knew that it can sometimes be a very competitive and cold environment (which she had already experienced in other places.) When she got to FLCT, we were amazed at the fantastic atmosphere that is created for all of the children there. Not only do they learn a great deal through all of their experiences, but the environment is such a positive one for each and every child. They do learn what it is like to be in a professional theatre environment, but they are nurtured in a way that they feel safe and secure, not "competitive," which is so rare. We feel that FLCT is a family, where new family members are always welcomed in with open arms, and my daughter couldn't imagine a life without it.

My daughter became involved in FLCT this past summer. Not only did we find everyone involved to be welcoming and inclusive with the "new kid," but she has learned so much from the professionals at FLCT in the short time she's been there! FLCT has truly given my daughter a place to belong, because everyone there is so supportive. This environment is not easy to find, especially in school, and we are grateful to have become involved!

My 14 year-old daughter participated in a performance camp this past summer and absolutely fell in love with the organization. The loving approach towards the children, the focus on community and giving back was something that struck both her and our family. We have been attending FLCT productions for awhile now and are so excited to be getting more involved both as performers and volunteers to help the program in any way we can..

My son attended FLCT as a child, and he is now in his senior year of college as a theatre major. I recently had the pleasure of working in the office, so I have first-hand experience of what goes on "behind the scenes." Janet is a truly dedicated director/educator. This reflects in the positive energy of all the FLCT teachers and staff. I regularly attend the shows--from costumes to set designs to performances, they are always stellar!

Fort Lauderdale Children theatre has been only a positive & enriching experience since the fall of 2oo9.We actually discover the theatre existed by attending the show "les Miserables"in Hollywood playhouse, because, this Victor Hugo`s story is so dear to me being French,i wanted my kids to be exposed to some of my culture.I was literally overwhelmed by the talents of those kids, the details of the costumes and the professionalism of the whole play, keeping in the mind that they all were kids from 8 to 18.That show made it for our family.Since that I can honestly say thar Flct has bee our adoptive family, for the last 4 years .They learn.they grow .and have a great time doing shows after shows. The only struggle we have is to combine the daily homework & the rehearsals, but i guess it is a small price to pay if you want to follow dreams....Sylvie Anidjar.

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is a nonprofit youth arts organization that has had a profoundly positive effect on my family. The interactive learning environment encourages participation from young children to young adults with many programs that develop and promote the arts, primarily the theatrical arts. All levels of talent, experience and interest are given the opportunity to be involved from beginner to gifted performers, as well as all other facets of live production. The FLCT has promoted and given all members of my family increased confidence, awareness of many different plays from Shakespeare to Disney, and brought us closer as a family as we share the magic of the arts.

My daughter, Tara, has been an FLCT kid since she was five years old. At age 15, she wants to spend all of her time there. The training she has received enabled her to land the starring role in her middle school play last year. She has just blossomed there. It is the most professional and well-done theatrical program for young people in South Florida. She has learned so much and gained life-long friendships. To see her so happy is just an extra blessing.

My 8 year old son has flourished since being introduced to Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre two years ago. He is treated like family by staff and other students. He gets very excited with any involvement at the theatre. His confidence has increased. I am sure he is making life long friends.

Last summer when he was going through a very difficult time the staff had open communication with me and offered a great deal of support. He views them as an extended family. He loves every moment he is there. It is such a great experience for a parent to be witness to this.

There is no discrimination here and all the children are treated firm, fair and consistent. And they all have a really great time. Even my 6 years old plans to attend the summer camp next year because he said the actors looked like they were having such a great time.

I came to FLCT not knowing anyone. It didn't take long before I was calling it my second home. The atmosphere, students and staff are just so unbelievably friendly that you literally feel like family the moment you walk in. They are an inspiration to me and my college career, without FLCT I would not be the person I am today, and I would not have as much experience and knowledge in theatre as I do now. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to explore theatre, I just wish I would have found them before my senior year of high school!

I had just turned 10 when my mom enrolled me in a class at FLCT, soon after that I auditioned for my first show. Little did i know I was auditioning into a family, a life changing experience, and something that would be a part of me forever. I started to make new friends and found that FLCT was different from anywhere else. I grew as a person. I don't think they know it, but a member of the staff there has played the biggest part in my experience. They are my role model and they are there when ever i need them. One special memory in ways i would like to forget and remember at the same time is when I fought with a girl at the theater for three years, then a show came along and changed my views. We both really don't know exactly how this outcome came to be but now she is my best friend, we went from catfights...to telling each other things we don't tell any other person we know. As far as I'm concered she's my sister and we need each other to get through the good and bad. We teach each other, and the people around us not to judge others. Afterall I was the "cheerleader" and she was the average "goth" kid. I look forward to FLCT everyday, it helps me get away from my everyday life, to me its a place full of peace, where I am free to be me. When everything else seems to be falling apart, FLCT's four walls stand strong. Today Im a freshman in high school, yea im a confused 15 year old trying to figure out my life. My friends make fun of me because i am the marketing/public speaking queen. I am usually the only one to go up to random people in the mall and start telling them ways to get their kids involved. You probably think that because I love FLCT i would like to become an actress, I don't do school shows or shows at any other theater, I want to become a speech pathologist. I am ASM for our current show. I love photography and am always taking pictures of the cast/crew. I have done about 20 shows at flct(you kinda lose count), i plan on staying here throughout high school. Maybe my kids could be a part of this one day. The staff does little things around the theater, that leave a giant impact in kids hearts...

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, is in its 61st year of operation and is the oldest documented children's theatre in Florida. Their year-round programs for children 3-18 include 7 professional theatre productions performed by children for children, classess in theatre arts, summer and winter break camps, and outreach programs that teach literacy and conflict resolution to at-risk children. FLCT offers many children their first experience in the arts and, in addition to appreciation for the arts, teaches them discipline, time management, leadership, character, tolerance, empathy and improvisation. It also provides an opportunity for them to forge life-long friendships while having fun. It is a safe haven for kids and a place for families to spend quality time together. I have enjoyed every minute of the 7 years I have been involved with FLCT, as has my entire family.

I have seen how FLCT changes children's attitudes towards the world and their peers. Through the combination of education, theatre, communication, and acceptance, children learn, and are able, to mange conflict, articulate themselves, conduct themselves with confidence (not arrogance), and accept that everyone can bring something beneficial to the table.

I first became involved with FLCT in 2010 when one of the adjunct directors created the Glee Show Choir: Sound Wave. I had never heard of the theater until then and had no idea what to expect. I was astounded at the talent present within the organization, in the teachers, directors, and students. But what surprised me the most was the dedication shown by everyone involved: there are no cliques, there is very little drama (the bad drama). It is truly a safe place where students can grow and develop, and learn to express themselves.

I have been with Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre (FLCT) for a year now. It has been the best year of my life. Not only have I met friends that will last a life time, but I've also grown as a person. The experts at FLCT truly care about every student who enters their doors. I first came to FLCT looking to do a play, but it was a pleasant surprise when I walked out with a new family. Not only are the plays/musicals that they put on amazing, but it gets the whole family involved in theatre (with the family show in the summer). I would recommend FLCT to anyone I meet!

I began as a parent at this organization about 10 years ago when my eldest son was having problems with bullies at school. He hated sports and needed another outlet for his creative energy. I was so thankful to find FLCT all those years ago when I saw my son blossom before my eyes taking to the stage in wonderful productions and blowing everyone away with his improvisational comedic skills. He will be turning 21 soon, and is now the leader of the his University's improv and sketch comedy groups. My other 2 children have also thrived there as well. Our family has been so positively impacted by this organization that both my husband and myself have served on the Board of Trustees at one time or another to ensure that this wonderful Theater will continue to impact the lives of children far into the future.

My three children have "moved through the ranks" at FLCT, having participated both behind the scenes and on stage for many productions over the last six years. They had forged strong, lasting friendships. My oldest son, now in college, still stays in close contact with his FLCT family and even performs in "reunion shows" with other graduated students over school breaks. The positive experiences that my children have had here will last them a lifetime!

As a board member and Vice-Chair for 3 years, FLCT has provided me the opportunity to assist in it's future growth. Having heard wonderful things about a children's theatre 6 years ago, I enrolled my son in one of their acting classes. Since then he has been in 15 productions and has grown into an amazing talented, confident 13 year old. Seeing my son's growth was the reason I became involved. I want to be involved to make the organization grow even stronger and more successful. Fundraising, stronger classes and increased enrollment are items I see opportunites with.

The teachers and students are friends who you will have forever. I joined FLCT when I first moved to Florida, it was the first thing to make me smile in a long time. All the students are great friends and no matter who you are, you will always fit in. FLCT is filled with the most loving group of people ou will ever find anywhere. The older kids act a mentors for the younger students. Whether you are cast, crew, or any part of a production this group will make you feel safe and at home. Everyone there always has your back and is the best support system you can find anywhere. No matter what life hits us with, your FLCT family will always get you through.

This organization does an amazing job of motivating young people to interact as part of a group in a positive, confidence inspiring manner. The kids really get into their acting. They sing and say lines, all from memory. Their performances will blow you away! In addition to the obvious educational benefit to the children, it is clear that their hard work in preparing for performances keeps them busy and out of trouble.

Its a great place for children to make friends and builds so many skills necessary for life. Theatre has impacted my life so much and I believe its important for everyone to get that experience.
Beside taking classes, the performances that the Fort Lauderdale Childrens Theatre put together are fantastic! Anything with the FLCT tag is going to be a great show, hands down. Fort Lauderdale Childrens Theatre has helped me grow so much, not only as a performer, but as a person.
When I first started go to FLCT, I felt as if I was already included into the family. That's what FLCT is, a family. ALL of the kids and also the instructors get along so well it's crazy. We all love each other and support all the decisions and struggles we go through in our lives.
Whether you are a lead in a big production number or a member of the ensemble, they always make sure and you always feel like you have one of the most important roles. FLCT has helped me grow and figure out my strong points and talents and also help me work on my weaker points. It also has helped me to be more outgoing and outside-the-box when interacting with others.
What I also really like is the intimacy and range of all the students. There are children younger than six all the way up to seniors in high school. It has a sense of one-ness that I can't find at any other performing arts theatres.
You always are finding yourself trying to be involved as much as possible there because the environment is so warm and inviting. It is like a utopian bubble that we all want to be apart of.

I am PROUD to say that I am a student at FLCT.

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is more than an after school activity to me, its home. A home should be a place in which people are welcome to be who they truly are. Compared to my school enviorment where kids are afraid to express their feelings and focusing time and energy on fitting into the role of the cookie-cutter popular kid, FLCT is a place where everyone has to ability to be free. No one cares what you look like, or if you act crazy, they just care if you are enjoying yourself. In my past 10 years at Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre I have found it hard not to enjoy myself. The enviorment at Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is therapudic. Even if I was having the worst day, everyone could cheer me up. Everyone here is so determined and hard working, it is great to be surrounded by people who are so passionate about something.

At my school I have always been considered odd. So, in the past year, I just stopped really talking. I kept myself from expressing how I feel when conversing with others. Instead of being my crazy self, I was forced into this bland person. All of the boys and girls are all so similar. Their personalities: dry/hurtful humor, not getting too excited about anything. Their looks: boys- hair perfectly buzzed, gym shorts, black Nikes. girls- shoulder length straight hair. If the hair is brown it should have artificial light highlights, if it is blonde it should have darker strands dyed in. Everyone was just the same person. If one person said "I like pepperoni pizza" everyone likes pepperoni pizza. Thats what attracts me and so many others to FLCT everyone is different. But, everyone's differences make each person unique and special.

FLCT is an escape in which children of practically any age are able to free themselves from the dull robots from school, and be the person in which they yearn to be.

I have been attending th Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre since the summer of 2006. I can honestly say that these past few years wouldn't have been as put together if I wasn't in the company of my FLCT family. By family, I mean it in the best sense possible. It truly is like a family at FLCT. Everyone loves everyone.. even when they're mad at each other. FLCT has shaped me into the young woman that I am. Without it I wouldn't be as outgoing, I wouldn't have memories to last a lifetime, and my family would be limited to those in my household. FLCT is a truly amazing organization and I wouldn't know what to do with myself if it were to ever go away. FLCT incorporates singing, acting, dancing, you name it, into an amazing production with elaborate costumes and sets. Along with the family aspect, you also have to professional air. FLCT is life-changing and I will never be the same.

FLCT has become possibly one of the biggest factors that shaped me into who I am today.

I've been going for three years now, and I have completely evolved in my acting, the way i see myself, my confidence, and the people I surround myself with. I used to be extremely shy when it came to performing, but with all the help and comfort that FLCT supplied me, I grew out of it.

The kids and staff that go to FLCT are some of the sweetest, most accepting, genuine people i've ever met. We all have problems and things going on in our outside lives, but it doesn't seem to matter when we get into the FLCT environment.

I've been pretty busy with school things lately to be as involved with FLCT as much as I wish I was, but still i come to see all the shows and go to the events they hold. There is always a way for FLCT to draw me back.

Not only that, but the shows are phenomenal for such a young age (Ex. A Midsummer Nights Dream).

I fell in love with the staff, students, and the overall atmosphere at FLCT. When I arrived at the theatre I was a very quiet and timid little girl who lacked confidence. Those who know me now can testify that I am now quite the opposite. The staff at FLCT taught me that I can do anything I want as long as I am willing to work hard and I believe in myself. The other students that I met at FLCT are still my very best friends. As a senior in college now it would be very difficult for me to think of a day that I am not in contact with several members of my FLCT family. I love everyone there with all of my heart. I have easily spent thousands of hours at the theatre working on 100 different projects and shows and I can definitely say that I can not think of any other way I would have liked to spend my time. FLCT is not for a few years... it is for life. The bonds created here are not easily broken and the life lessons learned can never be forgotten.

My daughter, Mai, who is now 34 years old, was only 12 years old when I became acquinted with the theater. She was a foster child in my care, and she was introverted. I wanted her to have a fun camp experience and learn to come out of her shell. I had no money and the therater offered her a scholarship - I will never forget what they did. Now, years later, I am an attorney in the area, and I always attend their events and donate to their causes. In fact, my youngest son and I appeared in their parent/child production a few summers ago - it was a GREAT experience!

My familiy has been a part of the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre for several years now. I got involved in the theater in High School after I was injured and couldn't participate in sports. The theater provided me with a creative and productive use of my time and energy at first, expanding my horizons artistically. But I soon found that it is more than just a community theatre. It's a place for camaraderie, for community and for culture. Every member of the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, staff, student, volunteer and family members dedicate 110% to their involvement with the Theatre, everyone falls in love with the place once they have experienced it.

I grew up watching Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre performances, but I never became involved in a production until my senior year of high school. All I can say is that I wish I had started earlier, but I'm so glad I became a part of it in general. It becomes like a second family. Everyone involved is so welcoming and genuine, and I have met people here that I know I will be friends with for the rest of my life. This theatre is a truly amazing thing, and I hope it keeps flourishing and growing like it always has.

I grew up at the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre and cannot begin to put into words how eternally grateful I am for this organization. FLCT has taught me many lessons, and provided me the opportunity to participate in experiences that have shaped who I am today. The Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is one of the most loving and positive environments that I have ever been placed in. FLCT is not only somewhere kids can go to dance, sing, and act (etc), but a safe place where self expression is valued and encouraged. In the last 12 years I have been a student and volunteer at FLCT, and each position has been equally rewarding. As a camp counselor last summer I got to witness first hand the impact that FLCT has in the lives of children throughout the community. Over the years FLCT has become a second family to me and many of the other students. The staff at FLCT is nothing short of amazing, they are involved and committed to making the organization the best it can be. They maintain a level of professionalism and hold their students to high standards, which fosters the growth and development of many of the young actors at FLCT. The productions at FLCT are top notch, which is no shock due to the mixture of extraordinarily talented young performers and the educated staff. The Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is truly one of a kind, and I am honored to be a part of what they do there. I hope that FLCT will be able to continue the programming and the countless other great things they do for many years to come. I love FLCT

I have been a part of the FLCT family since 1988 and have never let go. When I was too old to be a part of their incredible performances, i stuck around to volunteer and continue to involve myself in any way possible. Now I have 2 babies of my own and have already begun to immerse them in the incredible environment that saved me from emotional isolation throughout grade school and graduation. The idea that my kids will be able to grow up surrounded by all of the love and support that is found within those walls makes my heart so completely happy. I love the theatre like a second home and I will keep it in my life forever.

FLCT is a wonderful place for children, and would take my future children here. There is a slight problem with FLCT however. FLCT has a lot of favoritism going on. It hurts many people's feelings because it doesn't give children equal opportunity to get certain parts. As a children's theater and not a professional theater they should give different kids a chance to prove themselves. This however is lacking. Many people agree with me and are afraid to speak out about it because they don't want to affect anyone's views on their kids. FLCT is a non for profit, yet in order to get the money they need they tend to give leads to the richer kids or kids in which there parents are on the board. They do give scholarships, but those kids seem to be left in the background sometimes, I could name a few examples. How do you think deep down this affects some of the other kids? Kids care deeply about the children's theater and go for years on end without every getting their chance to shine. We need to start switching it up a bit, and maybe some kids would grow even more on stage..and off.

It all started with my family going to this magical place. My uncle Jarrod started Fort Lauderdale Children's Theater when he was very young, and made it his life. He spent every hour of every day there. He did both cast and crew there up until age 18, and still today in his 30's comes to visit. My father started Fort Lauderdale Children's Theater very young, and my uncle Jason as well. Once I was born, my grandma and uncle Jarrod led me here. I was three years old when I started the jellybean class. I was a shy little girl, who always held onto my grandma's neck and needed to be held. On day one of FLCT, the teacher at the time asked me, "Britney, do you want to try on costumes and play games with us?" I then jumped out of my grandma's arms to go play with the other kids. That was a huge breakthrough for me. I was antisocial and shy.
From three years old, I did all the shows there nonstop. During my years there, I had a tragedy in my family. I lost my mother at the age of 29. I was ten years old. I was very messed up, and needed help. I needed to know that there were people out there who cared about me, and I needed as much love as humanly possible. Janet, the executive artistic director, came with me to psychologists to help give me peace of mind, which I so desperately needed. She understood that I needed someone by my side, and she was that shoulder to cry on. I was very messed up from it, and consequently lost all of my self esteem. I felt alone and scared. It became harder for me to go on stage and perform to an audience. Everytime I felt unconfident, all the directors there pushed me pulled me out of my comfort zone and got me my confidence I needed.
Doing the improv class at FLCT gave me so much confidence and made me a better actress. Ed, the improv specialist, made it so I would willingly get up and actually be funny, in those awkward middle school years. I could be having the worst day in the world, but Ed was always able to make me laugh despite my problems at home and my depression. My grandma sent me to improv to build self confidence, and to make it so I could put myself out there without being scared of being judged or unwanted. Improv helped me to overcome all those things, and more. At age 16 now, improv is still a major part of my life.
Middle school kids are mean and love to make fun of people. 8th graders at my school loved to go and do bad things, like drinking and drugs and I never would do it with them. I was always teased and always felt like an outsider. I'm a bit of a "goth" kid, as I was labeled, and I was constantly made fun of for it. Coming to FLCT after school was like walking into another world. Kids of every ethnicity, social class, and more can all come here and be accepted. People here don't pressure you to do things you don't want to do; they push you to do the right thing at all times.
Janet has taught me a major lesson in tolerance. Me and this girl Katie, who I met at the theater couldn't stand each other. She was a cheerleader and I was the "goth" kid. We constantly teased and teased each other. During a show called "Big," Katie and I got into a huge argument, that led into a fist fight in which we broke a prop. Janet pulled us outside and told us that we needed to get along and stop fighting or we would be removed from the theater permanently. FLCT is my world and it is to Katie as well, so we apologized to the cast and crew. From then on, Katie and I have been best friends. We have sleepovers at each other's houses(including right now) and we tell each other everything. (she does ;)
FLCT has truly made me who I am today. No child is ever left behind for any reason. This amazing place excepts everyone and never judges. FLCT does outreach and Janet does "Deliver the Dream," which is such a wonderful program. They also do an Anti Bullying program at Broward schools. I don't know where I would be without FLCT, and I am so proud to say I've had the best 13 years of my life at Fort Lauderdale Children's Theater.and i love this girl...katie santoro she is my rock

I was barely 5 years old when I participated in my first theatre production . I loved every aspect of it, and continued to do shows whenever I got the opportunity. But in 8th grade, I made new "friends" that would look down on my acting career and try to convince me it wasn't the "cool" thing to do. Not knowing how to react, I started taking all the wrong turns in life. I would do things I knew were bad for me just to "fit in." By the end of my freshmen year, I was worn out, tired, and depressed. My grades were awful, and I couldn't even recognize myself in pictures anymore. I had taken a turn for the worst and I knew I needed to make a change.

That summer, I found the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre (FLCT) and auditioned for a production there, without telling any of my old "friends". I got cast, & by the end of the summer, I could slowly feel myself starting to get a grip on my life again. So I auditioned for the next FLCT production, this time just with kids ages 13-18. I was shocked after the first day: there was no fighting, no peer pressure, and people actually wanted to get to know me. I stopped hanging out with my old, bad influence friends, and started hanging out with kids from the theatre. They took me under their wings, and never gave up on me no matter what. Simple put: they gave me back that spark that I needed to live. They reminded me that I had talent; that I was worth something.

Fast Forward: I'm a senior in high school. I am in the advanced audition-only choir, and I will be the first girl ever at my high school to attend all four years of Thespian Districts and States. I have participated in 12 FLCT shows, and am currently cast/in rehearsals for my 13th show, and am planning on auditioning for my last Mainstage show in March. In May, I will be graduating from high school with a Bright Futures scholarship, +1000 service hours, a thespian honors chord, and I was just offered early admission to the Theatre program at FAU, where I will hopefully be pursuing my B.F.A. in Theatre.

All of this, is thanks to the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre. Without them, I don't know where I would be today. They changed my life for the better, and shaped me into the person that I am today. I am constantly reminded by the loving, caring, wonderful FLCT staff that I have potential. They will do anything and everything they can to make you feel accepted and wanted. Whenever I get frustrated and feel like giving up, they give me that tough-love that I need to succeed. They are constantly checking up on you and making sure that everything is going okay in your life. They really, truly do care about their students.

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is constantly giving back to it's community. They offer outreach & anti-bullying programs, classes for all ages, mainstage and young rep. shows, summer camp programs, and plenty of other opportunities to get involved in the ARTS. Despite the horrendous amount of budget cuts the Arts in South Florida have experienced recently, FLCT still offers scholarships to students whose parents have been effected by the economy or who just can't afford classes anymore.

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre will forever be in my heart. I plan to continue to be involved with them in anyway I can for a very long time. One of my dreams is that in a couple of years from now, I will be able to walk through the doors of a brand new theatre built just for the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre, and enroll my future children into classes.

Parents constantly comes up to me to tell me how much there kids look up to me as a person and how much they appreciate me for being such a great role model, and every time they do, I'm reminded of how different my life is now to what it was before i started the theatre.
The Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre gave me my life back.

Let me see....Logan I believe was 6 and he discovered acting....Theater to be more specific...shortly there after he started taking classes with FLCT and the rest is history...someday Logan WILL be on Broadway and so much of his development and growth is attributed to this wonderful group of kids, teachers, and performers. I myself was involved in some performances and the impact on the lives of these kids and the community is tremendous...My older sons became involved in performing as well as behind the scenes activities. i could go on and on about so many individuals that have inspired not only my kids but so many talented kids that have been afforded the opportunity to display their immense talents and artistry in such a positive and confidence building environment. FLCT is a family that supports each other and promotes the arts so unflinchingly. They do community outreaches that help to educate and teach kids through performances. These efforts always incorporate the kids that are part of FLCT, so that it instills that feeling of selflessness and the spirit of giving within these performers. I would'nt trade the experiences my kids and I have had with FLCT for anything. Please support the arts and your local children's theaters. There is such an untapped abundance of young talent that performing arts provides the confidence to express themselves and grow into loving, caring, and inspirational adults. The staff are talented, creative, hard working, patient and excellent teachers of the children. I know this because I am acquainted with one of the staff members and have been permitted behind the scenes a few times.

We started small at the Children's Theatre with just one class a week. We were just going to "check it out". That was 4 years ago. Now it's a part of our lives and we are so blessed for that. The acting classes, the dance classes and the shows are all top notch but the lessons my daughter has learned are more valuable than anything. She has learned to teach the younger kids and be a good example for them to follow. She has also learned from the older kids and respects their talents. She has made life long friends. She has watched and grown from the influence of the staff. The staff is wonderful. They care so much for the kids and the art. Since they are always encouraging original thoughts and ideas, it pushes her to imagine and share her ideas to get things accomplished. She has no issues with getting in front of her class at school or the entire school for that matter to present a project or run for student council. The confidence she has developed because of the classes and shows at FLCT is a life changing experience for her. This is something that will follow her forever.

FLCT is like another family, another home! Everyone, even the teachers and directors, are amazingly nice and talented when it comes to the art of theater. The shows that they have produced (in which I have personally took part in 2 and in one right now) are SPECTACULAR!
It is simply astounding in how professional the shows look and how they are created. Everything from costumes, sets, play choices and most of all the directors and actors is so amazing that words can't describe it!
A good example is: I am now taking part in Aida, the current show. Everyone in the cast, the dancing instructor (whos super!) and the director (who is the sweetest lady I have ever met) treats everyone like family. We had alot of group discussions which game everyone a basic gist on whats going on in their cast members lives and beliefs, therefore creating a stronger relationship. The show so far is (of course) amazing so far (its currently in rehearsal) from the actors and their voices to the thrilling choreography!
So is you have the time, come see the show or even check out FLCT yourself! It is an experience you'll never forget!

I was part of FLCT for many years. FLCT created a world for my young minds to dream and be inspired. The staff supported and cultivated my imagination, and more importantly, skills that make me who I am today.

The most important take-away from all involved is the learning experience and environment provided at FLCT. It's much more than memorizing lines and creating props: it's learning of process of an entire production, adaption of history in some cases, and holding oneself accountable.

This is an organization where children and young adults from all walks of life can come together and learn from one another in ways many camps and classes can not provide. A truly unique craft takes place here, through the people involved and the art they create, both tangible and intangible.

Nothing can replace my experience with FLCT, and I have hunch many others, kids and adults alike, can say the same.

It is a wonderful organization and gives countless young people opportunities they would not find elsewhere. They serve as an invaluable resource for theatre experience and exposure.

My daughtes have had the pleasure of being a part of the Fort Lauderdale's Children's Theatre for one year now. I am a single mom and if it wasn't for the support of such wonderful people, they would not have been able to be a part of such a positive program. The instructors have taught them to be confident and sure of who they are. This theatre has truly made a difference in the way they look at life now. I am really grateful for all the wonderful people that work at Fort Lauderdale's Children's Theatre.

Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre (FLCT) is a place for family. Not only can one participate in aesthetic aspect of putting on a show that could go one-on-one with a Broadway production, they make you feel welcome and like you have a place. A meaning. It is at FLCT that I learned that being myself and expressing myself will take me a long way! I have friends that I will honestly keep for the rest of my life. I've never been to a more amazing place, a second home, in my life. FLCT has changed the lives of tens of thousand of children and adults throughout their 59 years of existence, and I'm one of them. I've never been happier to be a statistic.

I had the pleasure of attending the Broadway series of the Florida C hildrens Theatre on February 5, 2011. From the beginning the quality of the performances, ambiance of the surroundings and the superior professionalism exhibited by both the
Performers and the adult mentors was clearly apparent. I enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend this organization. Thank you.

Put aside personal involvement; do not forget that this is the cradle of cultural future. Not only can our children play and act, they will be more open minded to greater projects when they grow up. And there is the fun factor! Have you ever been to a performance of the FLCT? You should! They do a really great job!

We moved to Florida when my daughter was 8 years old. It was very hard on her -- having to leave the only school she'd ever know, leaving friends and leaving family. I prayed for something that would make her feel like this was her new home and she belonged here. Her passion had always been singing and "putting on performances" and magically, we found FLCT. I say magically because that's what FLCT is -- it's magical. Children of many ages working together toward a common goal. The older "veterans" mentoring and nurturing the younger ones. A place where everyone matters -- regardless of race, ethnicity, body type, level of talent or income bracket. A place where children can be themselves and they are not under pressure to be anyone else. A place that is a family and every member is loved and valued. Oh, and of course, the Magical Productions>
In a world where children often have a time fitting in, because of peer pressure and judgmental people, FLCT teaches them the importance of their individuality while teaching respect for others and the community. The Outreach Program furthers their reach and impacts many lives in the under-served populations in the community with anti-bullying programs, literacy programs and more. They also offer scholarships to children who otherwise would not be able to attend classes or summer camps.
Fort Lauderdale "Children's" Theater is just that -- the Children's theater.....the safe and positive place where kids grow to become better people in a world where you can't have enough better people.

My youngest son was 9 when he joined FLCT's Summer Camp. I left him with a tear in his cheek and his little hard pounding. He was a bit shy and cautious at interacting with other kids even at school. From that day on, our family started to observe a wonderful transformation. He began developing great self-confidence which grew more and more as he continues to participate at FLCT's classes and performances. He loved his improv classes and continues to the day.

Suddenly, this little kid was improving at his school work, winning poetry and speech competitions, enjoying stage performances, and becoming president of his class and of his middle school.

FLCT's Staff are a wonderful group of people who care about the well-being and development of all the kids. Most are young professionals who enjoy the interaction with the students/performers and whose ability to see through and obtain the kids’ best can surprise the kids, the parents, and even themselves.

I got involved with the Board as a Member at Large a year ago and have been helping FLCT with its strategic planning. FLCT has been hit very hard during this past economy, as is the case with other non-profit art-related organizations. Nevertheless, FLCT managed to provide full and partial scholarships to many kids whose parents could no longer afford the expense. This has been done with a lot of sacrifice and tight budget. I remain hopeful, encouraged, and committed to see FLCT grow. This institution really deserves recognition from its valuable contributions to the South Florida community.

I am so thankful that our family discovered Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre several years ago. FLCT has been our second home ever since. I've always been impressed with the way the staff interacts with the children. The bar is set high because FLCT productions are top quality, yet the cast and crew always seem to surpass the one before, due to their passionate hard work and the support from staff and peers. The children benefit from interacting with various age groups, and in addition to practical performing arts skills, they learn valuable life skills such as effective communication, resilience, poise, and self-control. I am proud to be a mother of a performer, member of the audience, volunteer and board member of this incredible organization.

I offer two viewpoints. I am proud to be an integral part of FLCT as a teacher and director for nearly 14 years, and I am forever thankful that my daughter went through FLCT's program from age 7 until college. She returns to FLCT whenever she can, and performs or works there when the opportunity arises. It is her second home.
In particular, FLCT's teens develop bonds as strong as any family connection. While some parents might be threatened by that, my experience is that positive peer pressure and exposure helps teens develop into their very best selves. As any parent of a teen knows, their peer group aids their identity.
FLCT provides all children the opportunity to become their most positive selves without fear of negative reaction or isolation.
It is my privilege to watch children grow into responsible, creative and caring adults as a direct result of FLCT's commitment to youth.

I have been fortunate enough to experience FLCT from many different perspectives: as a student when I was younger, as a spectator at their productions and as a mother of one of the performers. If you get a chance you should experience it for yourself, the shows are extremely professional and it is amazing when you think about the fact that all the performers are children ranging from 6-18 years of age.

There are many children that are on scholarship; in fact 55% of the summer campers received financial assistance to participate this summer. FLCT, like many others have lost several grants making it more challenging to assist families that would other wise not be able to give their children exposure to the theater.

If we were to help this organizations to maintain their programs we would be helping to ensure that these children always have the means of having arts and culture in their lives.

My family has been involved in FLCT for well over a decade, starting with our daughter Abby, now in college, when she was 5 years old in "Jellybean" camp. Our second daughter, Beth, caught the bug and has participated in many shows over the years. Her most recent experiences as a member of the new Sound Wave show choir and stage manager of the winter mainstage production have turned her into a strong, confident young woman.
I can't say enough good things about this phenomenal arts organziation, its respect for children and families and its very special place in our hearts.

I have been involved with Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre for 8 years and just want to share what an amazing organization it is. The opportunity it gives kids to learn different forms of expression is a tool that not only helps them in their youth, but throughout their lives. I have witnessed first hand how FLCT brings children together from all walks of life together and create unique bonds that grow to become lifelong friendships. In addition, theatre classes and productions leave participants with enhanced self-esteem, self-awareness and self-confidence - all tools that help prepare these young people for a life of and success. Being involved with FLCT has reinforced my belief in the power and importance of the arts and it is something that I absolutely intend on incorporating into my life forever! Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre is an incredible organization that I am proud to promote!

Our family has been involved with FLCT for many years. It started with our son, Ryan, who auditioned for his first play "Alice in Wonderland". Our daughter, Samee, also became interested in FLCT and performed on stage but also enjoyed the behind the scenes work of putting on the shows. Both my husband and I have also been in summer productions. One of the many wonderful things about FLCT...is that it is an experience the whole family can enjoy together.

One of the things our family has learned over the years is that...there are no small roles...everyone, no matter how big or small the part...is vital for a successful show. Being a part...no matter how small...of a production is something to take pride in and work hard and enjoy.

But it is not all about the perforamances...FLCT helps students do better in school and even was instrumental in helping our son select the perfect college. FLCT students learn how to volunteer, organize, create and become friends...with relationships bridging age groups. The older students are looked up to by the younger ones and an informal mentoring program helps keep students on track at the theatre and in their everyday lives.

Our family has loved all of our time spent with FLCT...from building sets, working boxoffice, acting, moving sets, dancing...you name it...but most of all we are very grateful for the dedicated staff who take every opportunity to make each and every child feel special and each family to find some special times together that they will remember forever. Thanks to all involved for being such a great influence on our whole family.

I have been involved with the Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre for more than 30 years. As a former board member and current volunteer, I can honestly say FLCT has been a positive influence for many, many kids. My sons and now my grand daughter have grown up at the theatre doing so much more than just performing. The director, Janet Erlich, and the entire staff, are not only professional instructors but caring individuals. They are hard working and will help any student whenever needed. FLCT teaches the kids many life lessons including tolerance, responsibility, friendship, teamwork and giving back to the community. By the way, their shows are great !

I have been a volunteer with FLCT since 2006. What an amazing organization! I wish I knew about them when I was a kid. They put on high quality performances, challenge the students, teach the students about important life lessons, provide a social outlet for kids, provide role models, assist with homework and so much more. FLCT is an incredible organization with an incredibly caring staff. From acting, singing, dancing and improv to responsibility, organization and respect, FLCT provides kids with lessons they can take on with them throughout life.

My family has been involved with Fort Lauderdale Children's Theatre for the past 5 years and it has changed our lives for the better. All four of us have become very involved in performing as well as volunteering in many capacities, including performing shows for disadvantaged kids, mentoring kids in summer camp, fund-raising for the literacy and anti-bullying programs and helping to market the theatre, including their outreach programs.
