My family and I have worked with The IDEA Foundation from its inception. Founded in memory of a family friend who had done volunteer work in Sierra Leone, the charity has a trust that covers administrative overhead costs, so every dollar donated goes right to work. Sierra Leone is rated by the UN as the poorest country on Earth, so a dollar goes a long way. I am extremely impressed by how much The IDEA Foundation and its partners have accomplished in a short time. Nursing students now have scholarships and a medical library, a free medical clinic is open, a student has come to the USA and been certified as Sierra Leone's only medical equipment repair technician, medical equipment has been sent, IDEA and Heifer Project have created 2,000 new family farms, schools are getting textbooks and libraries; the list goes on and on and there is so much more to do. It's so easy to give to IDEA using igive.com or isearchigive.com for your daily computer searches and shopping. Direct donations to IDEA can be designated for any of the several programs they support, and they will send honorarium or memorial cards for you. Newsletters keep you up to date on progress, new programs, student profiles and more. You truly know firsthand what your money is doing. The IDEA Foundation director and groups of self-paying volunteers travel to Sierra Leone to monitor progress on programs personally and develop new ones. We have been so impressed with this organization that we have gone from simple supporters to me serving on the unpaid Advisory Board and my husband planning a mission trip with IDEA next spring. The biggest reason I support The IDEA Foundation is because I know I am making a huge impact on quality of life for the poorest of the poor. If we are to save the world, we should start from the bottom up, where it matters most.
