My Possibilities is changing the way adults with intellectual disabilities learn with their new Campus for Higher Learning. They are offering adults with IDD the same opportunities all others have always had to continue learning post high-school, but did not exist before. Their new college-style learning environment is cutting-edge and revolutionary!
My Possibilities truly moves the needle when it comes to providing educational programming for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, affectionately called HIPsters (Hugely Important People). They consistently challenge the status quo and engage in actions that open doors to the community and workforce for their students. As an ever growing population in North Texas, there is more than 250,000 individuals with special needs in our communities that deserve services that allow them to live, work and play like everyone else. MP truly looks at what their HIPsters can do and that has made all the difference.
My Possibilities is providing an experience that simply does not exist for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. One step into the building and you can't help but notice the joy in the classrooms and hallways. This is not a place that thrives on charity and handouts; instead, this is a place that is committed to inclusion of capable and deserving members of our community and MP is ensuring a better future for these Hugely Important People.
I have extensive experience working with nonprofits that support vulnerable, underserved populations. My Possibilities is the most authentic, passionate and mission-driven organization I have ever encountered. It is a privilege to be associated with the leadership, staff, and Hugely Important People affectionately known as HIPsters, working to make every day count.
As a former vice president at a major funder that supports My Possibilities (MP) I can attest that they are a leader in the work they do to support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They are also a leader and innovator within the nonprofit sector. From their vision to build a full college-style campus for higher education, to developing social enterprises that will aid in the organization's sustainability, developing community partnerships, and attracting the support of all major foundations in the north Texas region , MP is setting the standard for how to be a great nonprofit.
My Possibilities offers continuing education, vocational training, career services, healthy lifestyle skills, social events, and so much more for adults in the IDD community. MP is breaking barriers and correcting common misconceptions about adults with disabilities every single day! Such a fun and joyful place to be.
My Possibilities is a wonderful organization that is changing the landscape for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
Finally, it is good to see a real difference being made in the special needs community, unlike the failing Nonpareil brand. Kudos to the team here from fundraising to community involvement. I know that the HIPsters look forward to the campus when it arrives. Good work and good luck to the team!
The best of the special needs day centers in the area. They have lots of good programming and try hard to train their staff well. It is very expensive, so they cater to the wealthy people from the Plano area rather than to families who are less well-to-do. In addition to the fees for the day programming, there are lots of extras costs each time there is an off-site activity. They have a good art program and music program (but again can be expensive if you want to do the lessons). The work preparation program is OK, but not very flexible to meet the needs of different types of people, so many cannot benefit from it. They have really grown almost too fast, so there are times that there is insufficient supervision while they are so busy providing good programming that they forget about some of the basics. You really cannot do any better in this area despite the flaws in this program. Most programs in this area would not get a meets expectations rating.
My Possibilities is a place where adults with intellectual disabilities have the opportunity to create friendships and lead a productive and interactive lifestyle in their community. The staff is friendly, respectful and supportive of each Hipster (Hugely Important Person). The opportunities for vocational and recreational activities are endless due to the caring and creative staff. The atmosphere is geared towards keeping the HIPsters safe and comfortable. The staff is very accessible and respond quickly to any HIPster or guardian concern.
MP is amazing and continues to grow and support our loving HIPsters.
My Possibilities is a day program providing adults with cognitive disabilities a rich curriculium of life skills, creative expression and job training. The leadership and staff are the very best in the metroplex. Each time I volunteer there, I leave with a smile and a joy beyond words.
Love having the opportunity to be involved with such a wonderful organization. The staff and volunteers are all dedicated to enriching the lives of the HIPsters and they do an amazing job.
My Possibilities is a great place for adults with special needs and it's also a really fun place to volunteer!
I found out about My Possibilities through a business connection. I work for a local engineering/manufacturing company that is highly active in the local community. About a year ago, we were looking for local organizations to partner with. After my first visit to MP, I was hooked!! There are not a lot of places where you experience total love and acceptance like there is at MP. The HIPsters (Highly Important People) are about the most joyful crew to be around. That day after my first visit, I left with a skip in my step and quickly relayed my experience to my company. Now, they are all hooked too! Since our first company volunteer day creating learning visuals, the number of employees signing up to participate at MP, has grown substantially. We now are on a monthly routine volunteering at MP. I cannot express enough how creative, amazing, and needed this program is to our community. Adults with special needs are often cast aside after they leave high school. This program keeps them active, learning, and growing in so many amazing ways! Such talent cannot be matched. Thank you MP for all that you do each day for the beloved HIPsters. What an honor it is to be apart of the MP journey!
I learned of MP through my employer when we visited for a volunteer event in 2014. Over the past 2 years I have witnessed the exponential growth of My Possibilities. The staff is committed to the relentless pursuit of the HIPsters (Hugely Important People) untapped potential. What is even more exciting is that My Possibilities is just getting started! I am excited for their plan to build a campus that will allow them to serve even more HIPsters as well as the surrounding community.
I am amazed at the love of and devotion to this program and the HIPsters, of the staff that I see each week. The environment here is safe, encouraging and fun. I see HIPsters of varying abilities, helping each other and reveling in their accomplishments. Large and Small. I feel privileged to be a part of the My Possibilities family and encourage others to add their support to this great organization.
MP is such a great day habilitation facility for adults with special needs! They offer a wide range of programs, from music to vocational! Highly recommend!!
My Possibilities is our favorite nonprofit.
The time, care, and most importantly love, they show the HIPsters blows us away evrytime we stop by for a visit.
I've been a Board Member and strong Supporter of My Possibilities for the past two years. I knew about it from involved parents before that, but it took being a part of the inner workings of the organization to really appreciate everything they do for developmentally challenged adults! Now that I've seen for myself all of their wonderful programs and how they impact the lives of this segment of the population, I am so proud to be a part of the organization. They are a caring, dedicated, well organized and efficiently run organization that fills a growing need within the Plano and Dallas community.
MP truly is all about being a family, and looking at what HIPsters CAN DO! Not what they can't, everyone here shows friendship, and most importantly LOVE! I truly believe God has used the staff to share his love, passion, faith to make MP an experience you will never forget no matter what your involved with!
Isaiah 54:13 All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.
Jamie-MP Cheer Coach!
My possibilities is a phenomenal organization!!! They really care about the "Hipsters" and gear all of their programs to helping them learn how to handle the basics of everyday life. Things that all of us take for granite in our everyday living. I have never seen a program like this!! This is not a place that babysits people with cognitive learning disabilities. They bring out the best in each and everyone of their hipsters!! It is a community that inspires each and everyone of them to be the best they can be!! I am so impressed and love volunteering there when I can!!
I recently found My Possibilities and I am honored to be able to enhance their mission. If you are looking for a meaning organization who serves individuals with cognitive disabilities and provides a trademarked continued educational framework, this is the place to be! The HIPsters (Hugely Important People) are treated with dignity, the professional and well educated instructors are extremely passionate, the staff and Board of Directors are highly engaged and encourage innovation. If you are searching for a sustainable organization to place a special gift that will make transformational change, please consider My Possibilities.
I have been involved with My Possibilities since 2009, and a Board member since 2012. I can honestly say that My Possibilities is a great organization, run by great people, with a great mission. The HIPsters (Hugely Important People) at My Possibilities are always at the center of every decision made and action taken - and the results show! The happiness and growth of each and every HIPster is truly amazing to see!
I can't overstate my pride and excitement to be involved with such a wonderful nonprofit.
The staff at MP constantly goes above and beyond to ensure their quality of service maintains its excellence.
My Possibilities serves to develop adults with special needs. Their staff and volunteers have the heart and creativity to make an amazing organization that is more like a great school campus. MP develops the hearts, minds and bodies of their clients. The quality people of MP draw a lot of support from the community and many volunteers. They are a "can-do" organization... whatever they can dream, they can make it happen.
As a Special Education teacher working with students who have cognitive disabilities I always worried about the graduating students having a good quality of life while maintaining dignity and being recognized for their giftedness. My Possibilities offers this opportunity by providing continuing education and participation in the community in a meaningful way. The Creative Arts program has helped to develop the HIPsters artistic, music and acting abilities. The Achieve Program offers instruction to increase vocational, social, independent living, and leadership skills. My Possibilities disproves the myth that people with disabilities "plateau" and cease to learn. These adults are constantly learning and are an inspiration to "typically developing" adults!
When you hear the words "My Possibilities", what kind of vibes pop into your head? Personally, I envision a beautiful, steadfast horizon. Well, this non-profit is just that! I have been absolutely blessed over the past 6 months of simply volunteering in any way I can be of help towards our HIPsters (Hugely Important People). I have not only built relationships with the staff and HIPsters, I have established a second home for myself.
I could go on and on about MP; but to sum up my thoughts: this organization has no limits, no timelines and no standards set for the individual differences and capabilities across the board of our unique and extremely driven HIPsters. From yoga classes, bible study, karaoke, daily living strategies and household chores, computer labs, educational classroom settings, comic club, art room, speech therapy and behavioral counseling, MP University education, cooking classes and a MP Culinary crew- to name a few ;-) - to a beautiful respite home, weekly outings to places like museums, comic con, the Dallas Aquarium, movie theaters, fancy car dealerships....the list goes on for days! Like I said earlier: NO limits, NO timelines, NO standards.
MP has an open heart and open door for any post high school adult with a disability that is not afforded the chance for continued education.
The horizon never ceases, nor do the possibilities
Previous Stories
My experience with the first of many to come events with My Possibilities was absolutely exhilarating.
I had the opportunity of being a University of Texas @ Dallas student volunteer for the 2015 Community Ball event at the Intercontinental Hotel of Dallas in Addison, TX on April 17, 2015. The first event I was awarded the chance of being a part of was the only convincing it took for me to have the urge to continue volunteering.
The MP staff, program, and of course the HIPsters are what makes this organization the one and only in the area. If this program does not intrigue your curiousity, nothing else will.
I am completely amazed at the great and thoughtful work My Possibilities does on a daily basis on behalf of adults with cognitive challenges. The agency and staff are innovative, responsive, respectful, determined and energetic when it comes to supporting our population and offering them ways that they can shine! I am humbled to volunteer and see the impact this agency has made on the individuals in the program, their families and the community as a whole. They ROCK!
My son is an adult with special needs that has graduated out of the public school system. My Possibilities has helped him grow and learn new skills to prepare him for work. My son loves attending My Possibilities, and now has a great circle of peers that support and love him. My Possibilities has very professional and caring staff, that make a difference in the lives of adults with cognitive challenges by showing them love care and kindness while challenging them to be all that god intended.
I came to be apart of the MP team over two years ago. When I came I was staff member #14, and today we have 35 full time staff on the MP team. MP was serving 70 HIPsters at that time, today we serve 175 everyday. I have an active role with new families and there is not one story or circumstance that I have heard that humbles me. The sacrifices families in the DFW area make to have the higher level of programming for their adult is amazing.
Not only as a member of management but as a personal donor I expect nothing but the best for our HIPsters. I know what the state of Texas pays to serve our population but you would be surprised ..........
The dedication that the families, the staff, the Board of Directors, the volunteers and the community has is AMAZING!!!!!
You will not find a better organization to be associated with.
If you are ever in the area, stop by and I will personally will tour you!
I am a vocational teacher who helps students transition from being in school to the next phase of their life. My Possibilities offers opportunities most have never had before. From the social to the physical and educational needs of each person. I am proud to recommend My Possibilities to families.
My Possibilities is the ONLY "day hab" that provides actual, meaningful instruction. The staff recognizes that HIPSTERS are quite capable of improving employability and self help skills and work with each individual to help them be the best they can be! My Possibilities is so unique and special.
My son became a HipSter about 6 months ago and both Mom and Dad are so pleased how he has responded to the positive environment. He was a bit apprehensive the first month but he began to really come out of his shell. I am certain it is due to the total acceptance he encounters with his peers and staff. He has stated goals and receives a quarterly "report card" detailing his progress, which helps us at home reinforce stated goals.
My Possibilities is a non-profit organization desperately needed in our community. Children with disabilities that age out of the local school system now have a day center that treats them with respect, dignity, and kindness. Adults with Disabilities or what My Possibilities likes to call - HIPsters (Hugely Important People) are taught vocational skills; work skills, livings skills, etc. My Possibilities uses music therapy, art therapy and much, much more. I have never seen a more dedicated staff and group of volunteers than those at My Possibilities. Visit their facility and see if you are not moved by what is happening there! The power of love and kindness is overflowing and is helping so many people. My heart overflows every time I am there. As a parent, I have looked into the eyes of some of the HIPsters' parents and have seen the relief. I have spoken to them and they are so thankful that My Possibilities exists. As one mom said to me on the dance floor at the MP Gala (which was really a prom for the HIPsters), "She is so happy. I cannot believe she is all dressed up and out on a dance floor having so much fun. I never thought that she or I would ever experience this." Ugh! I hugged her and my child without a disability and my husband watched and felt the live and joy danced with HIPsters and their families as they smiled and simply had the time of their lives. My Possibilities is just awesome!
I have volunteered for years with My Possibilities because I believe in their mission and they work so hard it makes you want to join in and work hard too for these hugely important people they support. Everyone on the staff there goes the extra mile and you see it in everything MP does. Their building is one of the happiest places in town where people feel comfortable, learn and express themselves. It's amazing to see people with disabilities come and enjoy all the things that we take for granted whether it be earning a paycheck, creating a piece of art work, hanging out with friends at social events... It's all happening here. I remember when this place was just a small startup and now they are servicing so many families. The special needs community is greatly under served in our country and it is wonderful to see a non-profit set up and be exactly what these people needed and more.
My sister has gone to MP now for two years. She has really blossomed. Thank you MP for taking care of my sis!!
This is the best program I have ever seen. My sister has been involved in several other programs but this far exceeds any of the others. I feel so blessed to have My Possibilities available to her. Janice J
My Possibilities is like no other!!! My family has looked for a program for my brother for years and now that I am in the Plano area our lives have been changed for the better! My brother is happier than he has been in years - all thanks to the joy My Possibilities gives him! Every teacher and volunteer is fully devoted to the program, the HIPsters and their families. Truly an incredible place!
Great place for Adults with Disabilities with Staff that go above and beyond to continue in each and every one of the clients the places they need help with becoming a fully independent Adult.
I have a daughter that Goes to MP and we live in Mckinney area and she is fixing to go onto the The HCS but we are in need of transportation does anybody have any ideas or help.
NOw she gets picked up threw lifepath but they will go away once she get HCS. Put we want her to still go to MP.
Thanks
Mrs. Nissen
Our daughternhasnbeen attending MyPossibilities during school breaks for two years. All the staff are genuinely interested in the HIPsters. - it's not just a job to them. they are a truly dedicated group of people.
The programming gets better and better. I especially appreciate the art program - our daughter has learned so much there.
MyPossibilities gets 5 stars from our whole family.
I don't have a family member with disabilities, but my whole family assisted with some of the set up of My Possibilities (designing the logo, setting up the first website etc.) and all of us happily volunteered our time over the past 5 years.
Due to my personal volunteering, I was asked to join the MP Staff team on a part-time basis in 2010 As MP has grown this position is now a full time position. Not only does MP look after the HIPsters, they also look after their staff too! We are all one big family. I love working here and spending some time each day with the wonderful HIPsters who attend.
My Possibilities is doing fantastic work in helping special needs adults reach their fullest potential. Their programs help build work and independence skills, provide social and enrichment activities as well as provide a positive daily environment for these special people. My son has been attending their MP University program and Explore program for several years and has made tremendous progress. He loves attending the program.
I became aware of My Possibilities when my son decided to move back to Dallas. He had worked several years at Opportunity Village in Las Vegas which is also a great nonprofit specializing in continuing education for adults with disabilities. Michael met with the Board of Directors and described his vision of what they could become. They made him the Executive Director that day. Now it is three years later and My Possibilities have just moved into their new building, and what a building it is. There is nothing like it in North Texas. And the Staff are amazing! Every Hipster genuinely enjoys their time there. And the future is going to be even better. Just visit the My Possibility facilities and see for yourself. But beware, if you do, you will be hooked!
When I started at my possibilities my goal was to get a job. After a year my possibilities has made my goal come true and help me want to go back to college to get my degree in special education. If it weren't for them I feel like I wouldn't have wanted to go back to school.
I met the founders before My Possibilities was even in the grassroots stage. I have a son with disabilities, and though we are moving out of the area...I will still support them. I pray we find an organization similar to them where we are moving. They are dedicated to the WHOLE PERSON for their "HIPsters." The model of the organization is community incusive - and thus preparing for ongoing services well into the future.
My Possibilities staff and its rich and innovative program has enabled my adult daughter to participate in daily activities that foster her growth in so many areas like independence, assertiveness, self esteem, and community involvement.
The staff is always focused on helping all attendees achieve and explore, hence the same words describe their phenomenal daily program.
We are committed to supporting My Possibilities for the future and we thank them!
My daughter is 26 years old and has Autism. She has been attending My Possibilites since the day they opened. Outstanding dedication of the staff truly wanting to educate, entertain and help with the Hipsters selfesteam.
One of a kind organization!
My son is 23 and is autistic. He attended My Possibilities for two summers while he was in his post-high school program and he's returning now as a full time "Hipster". We love the program and we don't know what we would do without it. The staff always works individually with all the Hipsters to help them reach their full potential. There is so much variety in their daily schedule. My Possibilities offers vocational training, daily living skills, a book club, fitness and yoga classes, and outings in the community. It is a place my son can go where I know he's growing and learning every day and being challenged to interact more with others. The best thing is that the staff there believes in my son and what he is capable if accomplishing. I'm so glad My Possibilities is a part of our community and I am indebted to the staff and the directors who had the vision and saw the need to create this wonderful program.
I have been volunteering at My Possibilities as a receptionist since I retired from my "real job" last March. My Possibilities provides training, fun and socialization for adults with cognitive disabilities known as HIPsters. (Hugely Important People) Aside from learning, HIPsters are happy and productive in this environment. It's a rocking place to be. I enjoy working there and I think MP accomplishes great things!
My Possibilities is a one-of-a-kind nonprofit organization offering adults with disabilities continued education and socialization opportunities. It allows the HIPsters to become confident and independent individuals. I've learned so much about myself and others in the short time I've been here. It's been such a rewarding experience so far!
Been volunteering here for a couple of years now, and I cannot even express how much I LOVE My Possibilities! The staff is beyond fabulous, and the HIPsters receive such an enriching program with their time here!
Back in 2007, I first learned about MP when I was working as a special education teacher at a nearby high school. Part of my responsibilities included helping parents and guardians seek out options for their special needs student post graduation. During my time as an educator, I toured and experienced many different local day habilitation and workshop programs, and I can say with confidence that this is the ONLY one I would let my own child attend.
Even my friends and my family all know how in love I am with this facility. I find myself singing the praises of MP all over town, in line at the grocery store, at the dog park, everywhere!
I encourage any parent to call for information and a tour, and I encourage any private citizen to consider making a donation of either time, money, or perhaps a product and/or professional service to benefit MP at upcoming fundraisers and silent auctions!
My daughter, who is 29 years old, attends MyPossibilities. She has gained so much independence and confidence since starting the program! The caregivers are WONDERFULLY patient with the clients and I never worry that Amber is being mistreated or being ignored. The staff goes above and beyond to make our adult disabled children feel as valued as everyone else in the community. Thanks MP!
