Mission: Ia-100, inc. Is organized and operated to educate the american political establishment, media and public about the community of iranian-americans and to foster greater understanding of the iranian-american community and its persian heritage.
Programs: 2017 survey. The public affairs alliance of iranian american's ia-100 released the findings of their 2017 national public opinion survey examining the attitudes of 400 iranian americans revealing concerns over increased discrimination and domestic issues -- a shift from previous polling. A great majority of respondents (82%) are worried about rising discrimination against iranian americans, and more than one-half (56%) report having personally experienced discrimination. Reflecting these concerns, survey respondents chose improving the image of iranian americans (79%) and protecting iranian american civil rights (76%) as the most important goals that should be advanced by iranian american organizations. This is a shift from previous years. Regarding us-iran relations, a large majority (83%) oppose the travel ban executive order and are worried that it will deter travel to and from iran, where they still have deep familial connections. Nearly two-thirds of iranian americans (63%) believe the trump administration should maintain the iran nuclear agreement. Survey results also show that the majority of iranian americans believe the united states should help advance democracy and promote civil rights in iran and create employment opportunities for iranians through greater u. S. Investment in the country. Moreover, respondents clearly favor a secular democracy in iran.
2017 nowruz capitol hill event. On march 20th, 2017, ia-100 hosted its annual nowruz reception for members of congress and their staff on capitol hill. A bipartisan group of 23 members of congress served as honorary co-hosts of the reception, which included a beautiful haftseen table. In attendance were fourteen members of congress including house democratic leader nancy pelosi, as well as more than 200 congressional staff and special guests. Ia-100's annual nowruz reception on capitol hill is part of its broader effort to celebrate and foster greater understanding of iranian culture, and to project an accurate and positive image of the iranian american community. Participants in attendance had an opportunity to learn about nowruz and persian culture and heritage.
emerging leaders. 1a-100 launched the emerging leaders program to nuture the next generation of young iranian americans with high potential to become influential leaders in our community. The program brings together exceptional young professionals from all sectors who are passionate about joining a dynamic community of civic-minded, rising leaders dedicated to developing actionable ideas to advance the interests of the iranian american community - both within the iranian american community and non-iranian american communities. During the weekend of september 8th through 10th, the emerging leaders met for their inaugural retreat in washington, dc to network and collaborate on issues important to the iranian american community. The group participated in a day-long customized leadership seminar led by an aspen institute moderator on "leadership, community, and commitment. " the emerging leaders also heard first hand from a washington political strategist about how washington works and what it takes to build influence for the community. The group worked to develop projects, which include engaging with and developing partnerships with institutions, organizations , and communities within and outside the iranian american community to address national and local issues, public concerns, as well as to promote the quality of their community.
national communications campaign - 2017 profile raising campaign: ia-100 launched a digital campaign - we are iranian american - which will work to further advance the organization's objective to raise the profile of the community with lawmakers, policy experts, journalists, and the american public at large through messaging and storytelling. Our campaign's comprehensive approach will bring custom messaging and targeted multimedia content to increase the reach and effectiveness of positive media coverage related to iranian americans, enhancing our image as trusted community members. The goal of this campaign is to educate members of congress on the contributions of iranian americans and by projecting an accurate image of the community, to clarify the impact of certain legislation on the community, such as the trump administration's travel ban, us-iran relations and diplomatic efforts among other topics.
