Causes: Art Museums, Arts & Culture
Mission: The hudson river museum is a multi-disciplinary cultural complex that draws its identity from its site on the banks of the hudson river, actively reaching out to broaden the horizons of all of its visitors. We engage in the presentation of exhibitions, programs, teaching initiatives, research, collecting, preservation, conservation-a wide range of activities that interpret our collections, our interests and our communities. We do this out of a commitment to lifelong learning for all of our audiences, from students and teachers, to families, to individuals, to seniors. We utilize the resources of our museum of art, historical collection, glenview, our historic house, our environmental teaching galleries and the andrus planetarium to create experiences for our visitors that are meaningful and enjoyable. Programs: Public programs: includes lectures, workshops, concerts, seminars, performances and presentations to visitors on a regular basis as well as work with underserved community groups to develop programs of significant interest to those communities and provide access to them. Also includes all of the functions necessary to operate the museum's programs on a 7-day-a-week basis including maintenance of exhibits, security of exhibits and collections, and visitor services, together with activities related to the upgrade and expansion of galleries and program facilities.
exhibitions & curatorial: exhibit, interpret and research collections including art and historical objects. Maintain, interpret, research glenview, 1876 house listed on national historic register. Developed and presented special exhibitions including "wyeth wonderland: josephine douet envisions andrew wyeths worldx; "robert zakanitch: garden of ornamentx; and "sylvia sleigh: invitation to a voyage". Includes the publication of catalogs and other support material.
education: develops programs that provide educational experiences for nearly 23,000 school children. Develops and presents programs that provide in-service training for teachers. Works closely with partner schools to develop curriculum with the schools. Maintains a special training program for high school students that focuses on skills development and includes internships at the museum.
