Mission: To provide support and access to services for young adults transitioning into adulthood who are disconnected from family and the community.
Programs: The back on track program and the high school support programs are offered within 4 high schools and in partnership with lincoln public schools. The hub's staff members take referrals for youth who are in danger of falling behind in credits, are habitually truant, or are facing other barriers that are preventing regular school attendance. The hub staff will work with youth to help the student reach their educational goals. This program is currently offered in lincoln high, southeast, northeast and north star high schools.
leap - the hub staff provides postsecondary bridging support for young people who are involved, or who have ever been involved in the foster care system. Youth can be referred through our central access navigator and will receive support in navigating the process of pursuing postsecondary education or a career path. Once enrolled in college, support will continue through a partnership with central plans for first year support services.
lincoln education outreach (leo) is a comprehensive youth development program for young people who have experienced various barriers to academic and social success, and who have not had the opportunity to tap their leadership potential in positive ways. Leo seeks to increase the number of developmental assets in its participants by utilizing a strength-based approach to promote positive self-esteem and assist youth in developing personal and social responsibilities.
project hire (helping improve readiness for employment) is a 16-week program designed for youth ages 16-18 that are in need of employment skills. Project hire helps to identify potential barriers to employment and gives the youth problem solving skills to deal with situations as they arise. While our community is fortunate to have many services available, navigating the system of available resources can be confusing for anyone. Young people who are aging out of foster care have the burden of finding the separate services they need and knitting them together into something that can support their immediate needs and help them work toward future successes. Project h2o (here to overcome) is an empowerment program for females ages 16-18. The program teaches participants how to overcome issues in their lives that have hindered their progress toward becoming successful adults. The target population includes: female juvenile offenders; youth who are not currently attending school; have recently been released from juvenile detention; or are at risk of entering/re-entering the juvenile justice system; as well as pregnant or parenting youth. That's where the hub's central access navigator comes in. In partnership with nebraska children and families foundation's project everlast, the hub provides a central access navigator to help young people determine what services they need, access those services, and ensure that they're working together to provide a customized system of support.
