In 2017, the honorable order of kentucky colonels directly and indirectly served 3 million individuals, gave grants totaling over $1. 5 million and helped 173 organizations in the state of kentucky. The kentucky colonels has joined with the kentucky community and technical college system to address a void in the system. The target is single working parents with children under the age of 12. Too frequently, these families are caught in a downward spiral that effects generations. Unskilled and somewhat lacking in education, the parent is unable to provide a suitable, nurturing home environment for their children that most of us would deem appropriate. The "void" in the system is a lack of educational assistance for such individuals. Thus, the creation of the kentucky colonels better life scholarship program. The possible benefits are seemingly endless. By improving their education, a parent can provide a better home; the children learn from the experience and place a high value on their own education; families are empowered and removed from welfare. The kentucky colonels better life scholarship has awarded over $1,000,000 in college funding. The grant is administered by the kentucky community and technical college system.
