The Hexagon Project is an international platform that uses art to address common themes and promote interdependence. This seemed like the perfect format for this project, and I'm grateful to have learned about it. The collective body of work was installed in a public park as part of this year’s Indigenous Peoples’ Day events. The community was able to see the power of art and arts integration in learning.
Stephanie Graham, Mount Everett Regional School, Sheffield, MA

“… the notion of being a global citizen
is incorporated into every
discipline we teach.
The hexagons…helped students to forge cognitive links between the subjects of the hexagons and the major issues in their own lives and the lives of other students around the world. Each shares the common values of health, education and human rights.
This exercise reinforced the notion of collective responsibility
and exposed students to the common experiences of humankind as a whole.”
Gene Teeger, Art Teacher, Toronto, Canada

Teacher: “I find that many teenagers really do have concerns about the world in which they live
and they value the opportunity to have a voice. Because the theme is broad enough, they were able to adapt it to their own personal concerns.” Cindy Henry, Art Teacher, New York.

“The Early Learning Centre is so grateful to be connected to such an important global art project. The Interdependence Hexagon Project themes become central to the teaching and learning inside and outside of the classroom. The hexagon shape also becomes a strong mathematical and metaphorical learning topic. Thank you again for acknowledging the voice of the child in matters that affect them now and into the future.” Jan Deans, Director, Early Learning Centre, University of Melbourne, Australia.
