Causes: Health, Heart & Circulatory System Diseases & Disorders
Mission: To promote heart health and to eliminate disparities associated with cardiovascular disease in vulnerable communities. We aim to improve public health of communities by providing reliable and accessible health educational resources, engaging in community-based participatory research and collaborative partnerships, advocating for community empowerment and self-determination, and assisting with program development and evaluation.
Programs: The healthy heart cpp received funding from share our strength, shopping matters, to hold interactive, guided grocery shopping tours teaching low income families and wic parents four key food shopping skills: buying fruits and vegetables on a limited budget, identifying whole grains, comparing unit prices, and reading food labels. We applied for general mills healthy kids grant to implement a nutrition, physical activity, and gardening program in early childhodd programs to reduce overweight and obesity in children and a dreamfields 50 states grant to reduce diabetes in at risk populations. We did not receive funding for the community health worker program but reapplied in february 2013. We can!
