Mission: The organization's mission is to prevent, alleviate and eliminate poverty in the county of hawaii. The organization is a community action agency that provides services for low income, elderly, and handicapped individuals in the county of hawaii.
Programs: Transportation program - the program provides transportation for elderly, disabled and low income hawaii island residents. On an annual basis hceoc provides roughly 48,000 units (rides) for those clients. Hceoc also provides transportation for seniors to congregate meal sites during the weekdays. They also provide seniors with transportation for shopping, doctor's appointments and recreational activities. For the past fiscal year hceoc provided roughly 25,000 units to those seniors. By providing this valuable service, clients are able to live independently, be contributing members of their community and be self-sustaining.
food service program - the program prepared meals that met the usda guidelines monday through friday excluding holidays, for children ranging from preschool to high school as well as seniors. Meals were also provided to the county department of parks and recreation during the summer months through the summer food service program. Approximately 118,000 meals were served during the fiscal year. Our program also served as a training site to individuals interested in the food service industry.
youth services - the program was located at keonepoko and naalehu elementary schools. The lamp ( language arts multicultural program) provided in-school and after school educational services. We focused on socializational skills and academic improvement. At the end of the 2017-2018 school year, we successfully hit our lamp goals in math, language arts, science, speaking and listening skills. The total number of students in both schools were - 231 students tutored during the main stream school day and 60 students enrolled in our after school lamp program.
