Causes: Environment, Pollution Abatement & Control
Mission: Understanding the interdependency of all life, we practice and teach mind-body methods for experiencing and appreciating our fundamental unity. Our environmental actions aim at actualizing this awareness through mindful living, effective outreach, and compassionate political advocacy. Specific objectives include: shifting away from plastic consumption and waste; reducing carbon pollution; improving access to, and appreciation of, local and plant-based food sources; building resilient neighborhoods; reducing litter; and restoring habitat. Our activities include public presentations, conferences, web-based publications and video, clean-up days, tabling at events, and gardening. Monthly and seasonal retreats, incorporating meditation, education, and action planning, are staples for our local chapters. Each summer we offer the teen environmental leadership academy, immersing a dozen low-income youth in nature, meditation, and environmental action.
Programs: Each summer, green sangha organizes a teen environmental leadership program (tela). We take approximately 15 youth from underserved communities and immerse them in nature, meditation, and environmental action. We provide a bridge between the wonder around us and the people most likely to benefit from the opportunity to experience nature, meditation, and environmental action firsthand.
as part of our view of life as all inter-connected, we engage in various activities aimed at reducing our plastic consumption. This is done in many ways, including holding conferences, distributing information, hosting clean-up days, tabling at events, etc.
other various activities related to reconnecting ourselves with the planet upon which our lives depend include: monthly and other retreats incorporating meditation, education, and acti0n; education campaigns related to reducing our carbon footprints, preserving our open spaces, planting gardens, connecting with neighbors, etc.
