Mission: The Greater New Orleans Free-Net, founded in 1993, was established as a community network to provide a single source of information on health, education, publics services, art, technology, tourism/recreation, and community activities. Since 1994, the Free-Net has expanded this mission to include free Internet and e-mail services, training, and technical support to schools, teachers, community organizations, and the general public. The Free-Net provides training in Internet skills and resources to about 3,000 area teachers per year and conducts grant-funded technology training for area K-12 students. The Free-Net has developed working partnerships with over 200 New Orleans area schools and over 400 community organizations.
