Programs: Donated goods/retail operations is a social enterprise consisting of 9 retail stores, and an aftermarket recycling center. These operations provide employment and training opportunities for individuals who are socio-economically disadvantaged and/or have a disability. These operations provide support and training opportunities to reach their career goals.
goodwill's food rescue program operates with the purpose to reduce waste and increase healthy food to hungry families, children, and adults in our community. We do this by rescuing food from grocery stores, bakeries, and farms and reattributing them to almost 50 food pantries/soup kitchens each year. During the year we redistributed about 1. 4 million pounds of food.
goodwill's patriot place is northern michigan's only transitional housing community for veterans who are experiencing homelessness. Residents are given the opportunity to live independently and receive support services for up to two years. The facilities can accommodate 24 residents. During the year a total of 46 veterans resided there.
goodwill's workforce development program provides a variety of employment and training opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people. During the year over 100 people received services through this program. Goodwill's workers-on-wheels program provides safe, reliable transportation for low income working families. Building on the generosity of vehicle donors, goodwill empowers those in need to progress towards self-sufficiency, maintaining stable employment and an improved quality of life for themselves and their families. During the year 82 vehicles were donatedbenefiting families totaling 100 people. Goodwill's street outreach program actively locates and engages people experiencing homelessness who are living on the streets. Services provided include assessing each person's needs in order to refer them to the appropriate community assistance programs and providing staffing support to a group of local churches who operate an emergency overnight shelter from november to april. Each year the goal is to provide food, clothing, transportation, and emotional aid to people who do not, or cannot, access these through traditional community sources. During the year 294 people received benefits through this program.
