Causes: Environment, Pollution Abatement & Control
Mission: Global community monitor trains and supports communities in the use of environmental monitoring tools to understand the impact of industrial pollution on their health and the environment.
Programs: Bay area refinery corridor coalition work in 2016, we continued our partnership with the bay area refinery corridor coalition (barcc) to support capacity building and support among the coalition. This included attending community meetings, local events and planning support for their annual meeting. We facilitated bucket brigades in two of the five cities to document refinery emissions within communities, using that data to advocate for stricter emission controls and no new development and/or expansions. This project successfully blocked a permit for a new oil storage facility in pittsburg, ca and blocked crude by rail in benicia, ca.
