Mission: Gain is a non-profit organization formed to foster international collaboration among teachers, and the use of arts-integrated approaches at the global level. By offering multi-curricular and arts-integrated professional development around the world, gain prepares teachers and students to develop global competence, respect all cultures, appreciate peoples' interdependence and succeed on the global economy.
Programs: Iate (arts integration through experiential reflection):this is a two-part course that challenges participants to integrate their travel experiences in milan, italy into their classroom. The goals for the course are as follows:become aware of your own artistry, creativity, and cooperative skills during the travel portion of the course;deepen your understanding of children's multiple learning modes by making art along side artists who employ a variety of art modes;gain competency in "teaching through the arts" by experiencing the arts within the context of the leonardo da vinci's work and the art in the north of italy;challenge your own stereotypes of european culture, peoples and art through critical dialogue with an italian artists and teachers;develop new ways of integrating art making into your classroom curriculum.
steam in the amazon:this is a multi-curricular and arts-integrated professional development course (steam + english language arts) intended for elementary and middle school teachers. The course will take place in the amazon region, by the city of manaus, brazil. Participants will be involved in five days of intense work to include:short travels through the region to observe the tropical forest and the people who live in it;activities that contrast the scientific and the artistic approaches to understand and solve problems;use of photography to document the environment and to interpret and represent the artistic perspective;creation of a multimedia presentation to be used with classroom students as part of an arts integration project.
21st century institute:5 day workshop where dance, music, theater and visual arts are used as a means to access other content areas through arts integration. Work with master teaching artists to explore and experience strategies for arts integration in the four art forms;provided training in instructional technology for arts integration.
