Mission: The Glaser Pediatric Research Network brings together some of the best minds in pediatric medicine to conduct clinical research, recruit, and train scientists and advocate on behalf of children's health.
Programs: Research The Network brings together scientists from many disciplines to identify and help resolve problems that affect children with serious and life-threatening diseases. Taking advantage of its dynamic infrastructure, the Network develops and conducts multi-center studies, allowing research investigators access to larger and more diverse patient populations. This innovative model accelerates scientific discoveries in the laboratory and translates those findings into better treatments for children. Training Due to the decline in physicians pursuing pediatric research specialties, one of the Network's major goals is training scientists focused on helping children. Through the Pediatric Clinical Investigator Training Fellowship, the Network attracts and trains promising clinical investigators. This fellowship also provides them with the tools necessary to successfully compete for research grants at academic medical centers. By exposing these young doctors to a rich clinical research environment and extensive training, the Network starts them on a career dedicated to saving the lives of children. Advocacy The Network is advocating on behalf of children to ensure that children's health issues are at the top of the political agenda. Strengthened by the voice of Network researchers, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation successfully partnered with the American Academy of Pediatrics to restore the Food and Drug Administration's Pediatric Rule, which requires manufacturers to test the safety and dosing of medicines for children. It also ensures that drugs are available in forms suitable for children, such as liquids and chewable tablets. The Network also aims to expand federal funding of pediatric research and enhancing training of pediatric researchers. Through advocacy, we can ensure children benefit equally from all the advancements and lifesaving therapies medicine can offer.
