Mission: The mission of the garden project of southwest colorado is to grow a healthier community through garden programs, education, and access to local produce.
Programs: The garden project of southwest colorado's 2017 achievements include 1,501 programs and events with the help of 696 volunteers working 70 days, or about 4,330 hours. Total educational hours of 10,315 were provided during the year. During the year, 815 people were served and 5,000 pounds of produce was distributed from the manna garden at the manna soup kitchen. Garden based science lessions reached all durango elementary schools, about 987 students. 19 scholarships were awarded to provide to low income students the opportunity to attend afterschool and summer gardening programs. The ohana kuleana community garden celebrated its' fifth year. 37 groups/families gardened in 45 plots, hosted 8 workshops in collaboration with la plata conservation district.
