Mission: To restore, maintain, and protect the sausal creek watershed.

Programs: Field programs & nursery:in the 2016-17 fiscal year, fosc led 59 hands-on field trips, 141 restoration workdays, and 26 nursery workdays. The 4,051 volunteers dedicated 10,472 service hours to the community and the creek, propagating and planting 4,208 native plants in the watershed. The field programs include the restoration of 20 sites throughout the watershed. Restoration efforts include the removal of invasive, nonnative plants; native species planting; trash and graffiti removal; trail maintenance; and the installation of erosion control fabric. Native plants are grown at the fosc native plant nursery in joaquin miller park from propagules collected in the watershed. Frequent monitoring of birds, water quality, and benthic macroinvertebrates supports our restoration success.

Our monthly newsletter has a circulation of 2,885 email addresses. We also have a listserv with 691 members. We have installed educational signage throughout the watershed. We maintain two educational native plant demonstration gardens. In 2017 we released the sausal creek walkablewatershed concept plan and continued to expand our outreach into the fruitvaleneighborhood.
