The primary focus of the foundation this year was fund-raising for the 2mississippimuseums project. This project includes the design and creation of the museums of mississippi history and the mississippi civil rights museum. These museums are scheduled to open in december 2017.
the mississippi civil war sesquicentennial runs from 2011-2015. The foundation, at the request of mississippi department of archives and history (mdah), served a role as the financial repository. The responsibilities include the use of restricted grant money for the purchase of civil war trail markers and the delivery of grant funds to successful applicants around the state. The grand gulf-raymond scenic byway civil war sesquicentennial markers are a series of 13 state historical markers at sites related to the vicksburg campaign from may 3-14, 1863. They are located on the grand gulf-raymond scenic byway.
the foundation was an underwriter for the 2014 exhibit, "stand up! ": mississippi freedom summer of 1964. This exhibit ran from june 2 through october 31, with thousands of visitors coming to see the exhibit. It examined the events of the summer of 1964, drawing on photographs, artifacts, documents, and film footage from the mdah collections. The exhibit highlighted the people, places, and events of the mississippi summer projects, its challenges, and its successes.
