Mission: The mission of fort wayne ballet is to feed the spirit and spark the imagination through the highest caliber of dance education, performance experiences, and community engagement. Since 1956, fort wayne ballet has continued to build appreciation, enrich and broaden the aspirations of our region and community, especially downtown, through the integrity of the art of dance. Currently, our programs reach allen county and 15 neighboring counties. Our widespread offerings allowed over 36,500 individuals of all ages, ethnicities, economic backgrounds, and cultures to participate in fort wayne ballet's educational, cultural, and artistic programs in 2015- 2016. Fort wayne ballet continues to expand our reach and enhance our artistic vision while remaining fiscally responsible. The benefits of the arts directly impact our community by increasing the public's awareness of the greater fort wayne area as a cultural destination and encouraging economic and community development.
Programs: The academy of fort wayne ballet provides high-quality dance education to students ranging in age from toddlers to those over 70 years of age. The academy is one of the premier pre-professional ballet training programs in the nation and is the only professional corps of ballet dancers in the state of indiana. Our classes extend to pre-professional students looking to dance as their career and children and adults that chose to enroll because of their love for dance. Our reputation in dance education is nationally recognized as evidenced by over 68 students that chose to study with us through our summer intensive program and the more than 350 students that studeied in our main studios and four satellite locations during the 2015-2016 school year. A safe yet aggressive syllabus, created with the physical, cognitive, and emotional development of children at its foundation, guides educational efforts in developing the dancers as a whole.
fort wayne ballet features 3 main-stage performances, our fables, folk & fairy tales family series, and an innovative summer performance staged at a non-traditional community venue. Fort wayne ballet's performances range from the traditional classics to contemporary premiers from today's emerging choreographers. We strive to preserve the classic ballet masterworks as well as remaining relevant and current in today's professional dance culture. To enhance the experience, many performances are presented with other arts organizations such as the heartland chamber chorale, fort wayne children's choir, and the fort wayne philharmonic.
