I have fostered for countless organizations in 3 different states and I can say without a doubt that FUR is the best I've ever worked with. Mike, Susan and all of the other volunteers do their absolute best to help the animals in their care and support the fosters. Whether I need a crate, an exercise pen, supplies, or food, they immediately get it to me. I've heard stories about FUR and the lengths they will go to to save an animal but I was able to witness it first hand with my current foster pups. These puppies were found at less than a week old, in an empty bag of dog food on the side of the road. When FUR received a call from the local animal control, they immediately jumped into action asking me if I could take them and then securing a 2 leg transport to get them to me. The first few days went pretty well but then one of the puppies began to crash. This is where I saw just how different FUR is. Most rescues can't/won't put a lot of effort into neonates. They can be very hard to save and it gets very expensive. When I called Mike to let him know one of the pups wasn't doing well, I was so relieved when he told me to get him right into the vet. We saw the vet that afternoon and thought we had a plan but sadly, the next day the puppy started to crash again. When I called Mike again to let him know, I fully expected what most other rescues respond with, "well, you did what you could. Neonates are hard and they don't all make it". Instead, Mike said "take him to the ER vet". If you have fostered before, you know that this is not a common response. I won't take you through all of the details but this poor puppy required 3 blood transfusions, countless different tests and medications and 2 weeks of constant care by the amazing ER vet Dr Apolo but he pulled through! This puppy (Dutton) hit the lottery when he landed with FUR. I don't know of another rescue out there that would have provided him with the top notch care that FUR made sure he received. I can never thank FUR enough for what they have done for Dutton. They never hesitated when they said, "do what it takes to save him". I have never worked with another rescue that operates like this but as a foster, it is such a huge relief to have the kind of support that they provide. Rescue is hard no matter what but FUR has made it so much easier!

We recently had the pleasure of adopting our new furry family member, Charlotte, through FUR Pet Rescue, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. From the moment we reached out, the team at FUR Pet Rescue was incredibly supportive and attentive. They took the time to understand our needs and preferences, ensuring that we found the perfect match in Charlotte.

The adoption process was seamless and well-organized. The staff provided us with all the necessary information and resources to make Charlotte's transition into our home as smooth as possible. Their dedication to the well-being of the animals in their care is truly commendable.

Charlotte has brought so much joy and love into our lives, and we are forever grateful to FUR Pet Rescue for making this possible. We highly recommend FUR Pet Rescue to anyone looking to adopt a pet. Their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to animal welfare are unmatched. Thank you, FUR Pet Rescue, for helping us find our perfect companion!

Florida Urgent Rescue was an amazing organization to work with! They truly care about their dogs and where they are going. It's a process that comes along with the application, but it's worth it! They were responsive, understanding, knowledgeable and more! They have an amazing mission and the amount of volunteers they have, shows just how many people care and are behind this organization. I'm so glad i stumbled across them, because we were looking for some time before we found our Wilbur. He's been a great addition to the family and I highly recommend FUR!

At a time when I had to let Molly go, my 16 year old multi-poo, I was blessed to have found FUR. I was ready to adopt another adult, senior dog and FUR was there every step of the way. What I noticed most was how extremely careful they are in placing their dogs. From the application, to phone interviews, an in-home visit and a meet and greet, Nancye, Erin, Niki and Julie were so thorough in all they did. I highly recommend this team of dedicated and kind people that work so hard in helping all these sweet dogs. Thank you!

Florida Urgent Rescue Inc has gone above and beyond to help many URGENT animals at our shelter in Hamilton County, FL . From injured dogs to sick puppies to dogs and puppies in danger because of lack of space. They have always come through when we reached out. They have transported, helped with hording situations and followed through until the very end to make sure we were able to get every animal off a property where an elderly woman was at her end of life. I am so impressed with the dedication FUR has to help in any way they can! I'm grateful to have met and worked with Mike from FUR! I hope others will see the wonderful things that they are doing for the needy and homeless animals. I know with more support, they can continue to help save lives of cats and dogs who have no one else. Thank you, FUR!!

I have transported for FUR multiple times and recently volunteered at their gala. This organization is probably the most organized rescue I have ever worked with. They operate on a level of larger/million dollar charity.

The gala had some amazing sponsors, patrons and donations which attests to the dedication of its current volunteers and the relationships they have built in the community. There were multiple foster parents that brought their current foster dogs for FUR and the interactions I saw showed that these fosters cared deeply for their dogs and the rescue owners and main staff knew the fosters and animals well and had good relationships. The rescue owners mingled with guests and took the time to help at the main event which is rare, both helping where needed, checking in with Foster’s and thanking the volunteers multiple times. I am excited to work another event with them.

The volunteers were also amazing working together seamlessly despite this being, I believe, their first major event of this type. They were organized and excited to be a part of this org.

The transports I have done have been both large and small from a simple trip to the vet and back to a multi-caravan to another state. They have all been well organized even though some are last minute trips to help areas devastated by hurricanes. The owners are hands on throughout the whole process caring both for the animals and volunteer/transporters well being. I found it very touching that the owner Mike checked on multiple animals and took time to walk cuddle them while prepping us for the drive.

I have worked with many rescues and shelters in my time and FUR is certainly one of the best. We don’t get into this work for recognition but it is certainly appreciated when the owners and primary volunteers of the rescue appreciate and watch out for each other ensuring you take a break on a long drive, get some food and water at an event and avoid compassion fatigue. FUR is a well oiled machine that saves so many lives and is certainly making a difference.

I met F.U.R. when I was sitting in the waiting room of my Vet’s office. They came in with a dog that was so incredibly sick he couldn’t walk. I knew from that moment that I wanted to somehow help them however I could. I started by donating to that dog & also to the rescue. I then was so amazed by the work they did that I started to volunteer for them. It has by far been one of the best things I’ve ever done. They go above & beyond for so many animals without hesitation. Truly a fabulous rescue.

I have found FUR to be an extraordinary rescue group. This rescue takes in some of the sickest, weakest and hardest to place dogs and works with them to help them heal and recover and then find a loving home. The founder and volunteers care about these pups and are committed to their welfare.
I have adopted 2 dogs from FUR over the last 7 years and they were very helpful during the process. I think they are concerned about where and who takes the dogs and not just trying to get them adopted out. This has bothered me about other rescues who don't take the time to look into who the potential adopters are and if they will take care of the dog properly. FUR is looking out for the dogs and homes to be the right fit.

Mike and his team at FUR are nothing short of amazing! Their passion for saving animals is only matched by the great care they take in ensuring they find the absolute best furever home for each dog. I have been fortunate to help transport a few animals for them and they prioritize making sure each dog gets important medical attention. Their group of fosters are so selfless as they make sure each dog feels safe and loved, before heading off to an adoptive family. I’ve had the privilege of adopting & fostering with Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR), and I can’t say enough good things about this organization! From the start, their team provided me with all the resources and support I needed to help care for my foster dogs. They are deeply committed to their mission, and it shows in the way they treat both the animals and the volunteers.

The process was straightforward, and they made sure I felt prepared by offering guidance, check-ins, and even supplies when needed. It’s clear they truly care about finding the best possible homes for these animals!

Fostering has been such a rewarding experience—I’ve been able to see the direct impact of my efforts in helping a dog find a “furever” home. If you’re considering fostering or adopting, I highly recommend FUR!! They are a compassionate, well-organized group making a real difference in our community!

F.U.R. Played a huge role in completing our family. They helped us find the perfect dog for our home and specific needs. I am handicap and needed the love of a kind animal. We thought we were seeking a puppy. A unique F.U.R. Opportunity gave within our grasp. A female dog had a litter of pups. When I learned of the background story we decided on the mother dog. She had issues but hey so do I. I knew without a doubt I could understand and relate to this dog. She was very shy and standoffish at first. She wouldn’t eat and was very nervous. Today all of that changed. She is wonderful. We had a great experience with the adoption process. We had an overnight visit it went great. Our newest member of the family had a few medical issues. The F.U.R. Foster was great and made sure she was healthy before coming to us. The Foster saved our precious baby and her pups from a severely grim story. The Foster was there thru every step not only with our fur baby but with all of her babies as well. The Foster made sure we were completely comfortable before everything was final. She was sent home with something familiar, food and lots of great advice. I would highly recommend adoption of a rescue. As far as F.U.R. They treat each of these animals as they were their own child. They go the extra mile with no stone left unturned. Thank you F.U.R. For what efforts you put toward completing our family. We will be FUR-ever grateful.

We adopted sweet Max from Florida Urgent Rescue in June and had nothing but positive experiences! I saw Max's picture and description online and put in a hopeful request. I was promptly contacted by Heather, who got us started and walked us through the whole process. She was so very friendly and encouraging!
From the beginning, we knew that Max had a leg deformity, but once we met him, it was love... there was no turning back. But we definitely were concerned about his ever-increasing leg pain. This is when we met Mike, the founder of the FUR organization. He arranged for Max to be seen by a local orthopedic surgeon for assessment, and when surgery was recommended, he organized a fundraiser to pay for it. I was blown away! We could not have afforded the surgery! If it weren't for Mike & FUR, Max would have suffered, his leg continued to deteriorate, and likely had a very poor quality of life.
We are so grateful for these remarkable souls that value these furry friends enough to rescue them, spend time finding homes for them, and even extend into providing for their long-term well-being. We couldn't be more thankful for our friends at FUR! They are lifesavers!

When it came time to rescue a fur baby friend for our senior dog (his two packmates had sadly crossed the Rainbow Bridge and left him alone with just the kitties for housemates), F.U.R. was an impressive organization to work with. It was intimidating at first to have to apply and go through interviews and a home inspection to adopt a puppy, but we were impressed by it because that meant these folks are serious about not just finding homes for their rescues... but homes that will be safe and nurturing for them. Their focus is on finding a good match for both the pet and the homeowner and they were in constant communication throughout the whole process. Never once felt confused on next steps or left waiting with questions.

It was also great being able to talk with the foster parent to get a feel for the puppy's temperament and potential challenges ahead of time. Anywhere else and it's a bit of a dice roll what you may get when adopting.

We'll definitely reach out to F.U.R. in the future for all of our rescues over the course of our life moving forward.

We were ready to adopt after losing our senior dog. We looked through several rescues and our local shelters. One rescue was so bad we blacklisted them with our friends and network. BUT Florida Urgent Rescue FUR was amazing from the start. Their email communication is prompt and clear. Every individual we communicated with in the process was caring, personable, friendly, helpful and generally wonderful people. The standard process is thorough and wonderfully appropriate for making the right match. Following our adoption we were able to join the FUR alumni network to keep up to date with our dog's siblings, ask questions, communicate with other adopters and share our progress. These people are above and beyond for pets and adopters.

I have my best friend, love of my life, and sweet girl because of F.U.R. Mike Merrill found Sunrise as a stray dog that had a collar that had grown into her neck and her jugular vein was exposed . He Tom her to their emergency vet and she stayed late to do Sunrise’s surgery. She was then fostered until I received her. This is an amazing agency . Mike is available at all times to ask questions. Sunrise came to me potty trained, crate trained and simple commands . She is an amazing dog . I’m truly grateful to this agency and love what they stand for and all the work they do. Our beloved family dog died suddenly in January & we were too sad to even think of looking for another pet. However, When my friend whose dog had also recently died told me about some rescue puppies that FUR had just saved, I made the mistake of looking at the pictures of these sweet little puppies and decided I needed to meet them. My kids & I went to the foster parent's home and fell in love immediately with the fiestiest one of the siblings. We decided right then that he needed to be with our family so FUR started the adoption process. It was very thorough to make sure we were a good fit but also not drawn out too long. Everyone that I texted, spoke with or met in person at FUR was nice, responsive and genuinely cared about these dogs. We still miss our Tango a lot but we also sure love our new little guy, Bear!

FUR, in my opinion, is one of the best rescues in Northeast Florida. In addition to being an unbelievable resource for stray animals and those needing rescue in Animal Control facilities in Northeast Florida, they also have gone above and beyond to save those in other states and also other countries. These animals would have never had a chance otherwise and they treat them medically (no matter the severity) and find foster homes for them and then a forever family. They are these animals Angels and give them a chance that no one else will.
They do this out of love for animals and will never turn their back on an animal no matter of its age or medical condition. I praise them and their efforts and always say if I hit the lottery that they would be one of the first ones I would donate to. I see their posts of these poor animals and it makes me sad, but know in the long run that it will be a happy ending and that makes me happy. I wish more people would donate to them because they so deserve it!! Kudos to Mike and his team for everything they do.

I have supported FUR since before there was a FUR...
I first met Mike when a few of us tried to rescue as many pups as we could from a rural animal control where most dogs were killed. Not satisfied with our results we decided that nothing could be really accomplished working from the bottom up. Someone had to confront the County Commissioners , attend meetings and do the really hard work of changing minds and hearts. Thankfully Mike took on the leadership job and after much lobbying , letter writing, meetings and petitions.... success !! This work saved hundreds of dogs and cats from being killed and ending up in a landfill ... and we celebrate the resulting NO KILL shelter.
FUR was formed and from that day to this FUR has an amazing record of rescuing the worst cases , the abandon, the starved and abused. FUR is constantly working to find a place for animals brought into rural kill facilities whose time is up . Mike and wife Susan work tirelessly to find fosters and adopters and raise funds . The FUR family is above and beyond the normal rescue. They just don't give up.
Donors can contribute with confidence that their donations will be used to bring the upmost good for the overload of needy , unwanted , sick or abused animals. FUR always goes the extra mile.
From Mike and Susan, to the amazing Fosters , Critical care givers ,those who take and care for the puppies, the fosters who care for the sick and dying , and the transporters, and all of the faithful supporters THANK YOU !
They have developed an array of dedicated Veterinarians who like FUR always rise to the occasion to save the dogs... FUR is just phenomenal .

Sometime last year, I came across a post from Florida Urgent Rescue, also known as FUR. And as I continued to receive information about this rescue group, I knew it was some thing I wanted to be a part of. This animal rescue group saves abandoned, severely neglected and dogs who are in high kill shelters that are extremely overcrowded and vulnerable. FUR has an incredible and amazing support team consisting of fosters, transporters, volunteers, donors, and those wonderful people who adopt these precious dogs. Also, let’s not forget the great veterinarians who cancel dinner plans and come in the middle of the night to provide urgent and life saving care to save some of these critically ill dogs. I would also be remiss if I did not mention Mike Merrill, the founder of Florida Urgent Rescue. None of this would be possible without his great compassion and caring for these animals. I am a monthly donor to FUR and it is my privilege to do so. I am hoping that sometime in the future I may be able to take a more active role and become a part of this wonderful group. Thank you for allowing me to post this review, sincerely, Nancy Holechek

When we were looking for our new fur baby we contacted many rescue organizations. F.U.R. was top notch over all the other organizations by a mile. Susan Merrill was quick to respond and was very professional and thorough in how everything worked. With everyone I interacted with, it was very clear these people love animals and were determined to do what was necessary to ensure as many animals as possible went to good homes. We found our fur baby Hazel from F.U.R. after a litter was abandoned at a gas station. Even after Hazel was adopted Susan kept in touch and even assisted in getting someone to help with Hazel when we were out of town. From Hazel’s foster, to the home inspection, and all the other people involved, everyone at F.U.R. only has the best interest of the dogs as priority number one and it shows in how well the organization is run.

I am a rural mail lady in the little town of Hawthorne, FL. I see many cases of animal abuse and neglect that just tear me to pieces. One day, I just couldn't take seeing this one beautiful puppy being chained outside and living under a truck to get out of the sun during the day. I would stop by each day to see him, pet him and give him a puppy treat.

One day however, he couldn't move very well and I could tell he was so weak. All he could do was barely move his head to look at me and I knew something had to be done FAST. He didn't have the strength to move at all. Little piles of regurgitated food lay around him and I was desperate!

I was referred to Mike Merrill at F.U.R. and after he finally contacted me, he asked if they were willing to relinquish ownership of the dog and if I could get that dog to a vet immediately. I was given the dog and I took him to the UF veterinary clinic in Gainesville. I spent over $1700 of my own money trying to find out what the problems were with him, but unfortunately, they would do no more without more $. Mike came all the way to the hospital to get him and rescue him for me and for "Trooper" to be able to get the hopefully life-saving medical help he so desperately needed.

What an amazing man and organization. Sadly though, so much damage had been done to this poor puppy's intestines that he couldn't take in any nurtrients. Trooper's short lifetime of chewing rocks, plastic, metal and wire had destroyed his digestive system.

He sadly passed away after many surgeries in a desperate attempt to save his life. My thoughts are that at least he knew he was loved while he was here. He may have lost the battle, but with all the good people affiliated with F.U.R., the battle to save and rescue more every day still continues.

I am ultimately grateful to Mike Merrill and all those that help and fund F.U.R. for the life saving medical attention and love they pour out for these animals that so desperately need help. Everything from rescuing to fostering, they do it all.

I would highly recommend this organization to ANYONE who seeks to help animals in need because of the great service they do. They need all the donations they can get in order to better serve animals from dire circumstances. Every year on MY birthday, I ask friends and family to donate and also donate myself. It's in Trooper's memory and in grateful consideration for everything F.U.R. has done that has touched MY life personally.

FUR is wonderful!! I applied to adopt my dog, now named Hazel, from them in November 2021. They had rescued her from a high kill shelter, and she was emaciated and had broken a bone in her hip. They were easy to work with throughout the adoption process. Because I live two hours from them, they did the home visit via FaceTime. They even met me half the distance to give Hazel to me. They don’t have a physical shelter, so they rely on volunteers to foster their dogs until a permanent home is found for the dog. They are careful about who they place the dog with because they want to make sure that the dog is going to be loved and cared for. I would recommend them to anyone looking to adopt a dog. Here is Hazel before and after.

FUR, Florida Urgent Rescue is amazing, they truly care about the dogs (and cats), their long term health and stability and the families the rescue dogs and cats go to.

Mike Merrill goes above and beyond to make sure that the right dog (or cat) is in the right home. FUR provides medical care when it’s needed. I want to extend my thanks to Mike, Susan and Nancye and all of the people in Union County and at FUR and in Duval County that work tirelessly to better the lives of homeless, neglected, injured and lost animals. You are giants among men and women. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

FUR helped save my life.
I stepped up to temporarily foster a dog that was having a hard time in the kennel, I mean wouldn’t anybody in that environment?
My foster took a bit to decompress and adjust to finally having a stable home. After months of fostering I realized this was going to be a foster fail and adopted my sweet girl.
Without FUR I don’t know if she would have been saved as she was a bad abuse case with JSO involved.
Not only did FUR save her life, she has come to drive and encourage me and save my life. I’m so thankful for the work FUR does.

After traveling for three straight years and finally back in Florida my first goal was to adopt a dog to bring some semblance of normalcy back. I searched for a good 9 months and came across this Pit-Boxer mix named Summer shown on the rescue website. I subsequently inquired and within a few days I met Summer and instantly feel in love with this puppy who did not have the best start in life and was at the time going through heartworm treatment. The people at the rescue were most informative, upfront and most of all very pleasant to work with. The inspected my home and we scheduled a sleep over for Summer. We hit a Home Run, Summer whose name is now Marley has taken over the house She is the most playful fun dog anyone could ask for. Marley is now 3 1/2 years old (the picture is of her celebrating her 3rd birthday). In closing the experience of adopting Marley was a simple, informative and made the transition to pet ownership easy.

The HOPE they provide for these sweet souls is amazing. If you get lucky enough to be approved to foster or adopt consider yourself one of the lucky ones! Mike is one of the kindest and thoughtless souls on the planet!

FUR has been doing great work for many years and Im so blessed that our lives were touched by FUR. We adopted Diesel as a 9 week old pup. He has been a very very positive influence. I originally thought this was going to be my son's dog but very quickly I noticed this puppy was so attached to me. I was going through a tough period in my life when we adopted him. I had lost my Dad due to Covid and had been in grief for months... When Diesel came it meant that I had to go outside to get him potty trained. The meant fresh air and exercise for me. No more crying for hours on the couch. Then, we started going to the dog park where both, he and I made new friends, and slowly but surely my emotional state got better. I really believe my dog has helped me heal. Thank you FUR for the huge difference you made in my life. I will be forever grateful...

My name is Patricia Morawski. I adopted Abbey Girl in 2015 from Florida Urgent Rescue (FUR). Mike Merrill is wonderful to work with. Although the adoption application process is longer than most, Mike's process for adoption is for the sake of the animals. He wants to ensure that the families that adopt his animals are the last families they go to. He ensures that the new family is able to care and love the animal in ALL ways. Most of the animals like Abbey Girl, come from horrible situations. Abbey was a senior Black Lab when I adopted her. I knew our time on this earth together was very limited. I'm so thankful that Mike chose me to be her new Mom. She learned to play and enjoy life, because it was apparent that she was used for breeding purposes only from her previous owner. I wished that all rescues were as committed to their animals as Mike is. Just imagine a world without animal abuse. That's what Mike is trying so hard to accomplish and make as a reality. Mike and his crew are doing everything in their power to make sure that all their animals are placed correctly so abuse of any kind NEVER happens. I'm attaching a picture of my beloved Abbey Girl. Once she came to live with me, and she knew she finally had the perfect family, she never lost that smile on her face. Again, Mike is wonderful to work with. He may not adopted his animals to certain people, because he knows it's not the perfect fit. With Mike, it about the perfect fit for the animal, because so many of the animals have been forsaken by their previous owners. He doesn't want to forsake them again. We lost Abbey on August 29, 2021 to congestive heart failure. I was with her until her last breath. She was loved and cared for until the very end, but that's because Mike ensure she had the perfect family.

Buddy was one of the most neglected animals in FUR’s experience. Mike Merrill rescued him and I saw him on the news and fell in love with his indomitable spirit. He was malnourished and left outside during hurricanes. After a home visit, Mike decided Ellie and I could add him to our family. He should hate people, but he is the sweetest, most lovable boy who wants to be everyone’s friend. He loves blankets and snuggling, and is very the best snuggle bug around. I am so grateful to Mike Merrill and FUR for giving my boy a second chance at a happy life.

Since then I have adopted 5 dogs from FUR and currently medical foster as a volunteer. They are truly dedicated to the animals and take on the most difficult cases. FUR and the people that work with/for it are all amazing. I have adopted from and volunteered at various rescue organizations and I can say with confidence that FUR is unique. They are well organized, caring, and go above and beyond for the animals they rescue. We adopted our baby, Caya, from FUR over three years ago. They took her and her pup in as a rescue from the Bahamas after hurricane Dorian. Mike, the founder/owner, discovered them while on the island to transport other dogs, but made sure Caya and her daughter made their way onto the flight back to the states. When Mike found her, she was scared, confused, anxious, severely under weight, malnourished, heart worm positive, and, they would later find out, had cancer. None of these things mattered, all that mattered to the people at FUR and their veterinarian partners was to do what they could to make her healthy. Jessica, her foster, diligently worked to socialize Caya and get her weight up. When her cancer was diagnosed Jessica took her for her weekly cancer treatments, which were all funded by FUR. We met Caya days before her first treatment and fell in love! Although we were ready to take her in immediately, her health was first, so she stayed with her foster for her first couple of treatments to ensure she responded well before we disrupted her further. Once we finally had the opportunity to take her into our home for our trial adoption period there was no turning back, we knew she was a perfect addition to our family. She is now health, happy, and one of the sweetest, and definitely the cutest, dogs I have ever had or known. This life for her, or us, would not have been possible without the amazing people affiliated with FUR. Thank you all for everything you do!!

We adopted a mama dog (Kami) and her pup (Lola) in December 2021 after having to put down our dog who had cancer. This organization is so thorough. They did an in-home and vet check to ensure we would be good dog owners, which I appreciate since these dogs need to find their forever home. The people who volunteer as fosters are amazing. Courtney is the person who fostered Kami and her litter and she is a kind soul. She does so much for these dogs. In January Courtney rescued a mama dog ready to give birth from a Putnam County shelter. My husband and I wanted to rescue one more dog so we recently adopted Honey from that litter. I love that FUR helps out the local shelters by pulling at risk dogs and getting them into foster homes until they are well enough to be adopted. As well as being a foster parent and maintaining their adoption pages, I personally know how much they reach out to the local shelters and take in the many, many, lost and abandoned dogs in Florida as well as other states and countries. They immediately step in to save some of the most medically impacted dogs as well as the urgent ones that are on the euthanasia list. I could not say enough great things about Florida Urgent Rescue. When looking to adopt four years ago, we found this organization and are so grateful we did. They rescue some of the most difficult cases and save so many dogs from a terrible fate. Our pit, Luna, who we first adopted, was slated to be put down when FUR stepped in. She was misunderstood and scared and is actually the most wonderful and sweetest part of our family. We have since adopted our second pup Koda through FUR as well.
The volunteers at FUR are very detailed and take extra care in placing their rescued animals in the right home. All fosters and adopters are screened to ensure the best placement for the pet so that they will have their forever home. Our experience with Luna took extra patience as we had another dog at home already. Introductions had to be slow and took many weeks of multiple meet ups to get them acclimated to each other. The volunteers at FUR were happy to take as much time as needed to make sure everything was a success. We are so grateful for their work and bringing us the two most wonderful pups in the universe.
If you are looking to adopt, please consider FUR as your first choice. The work they do is amazing. It has been the most rewarding experience!

We looked into adopting a dog from Florida Urgent Rescue because we were impressed with how they intentionally rescued the hard cases: dogs running out of time at under-resourced rural shelters, dogs who are victims of abuse and neglect, and dogs with complex medical conditions. Many of these dogs would be overlooked by other organizations. We noticed how caring and conscientious the volunteers were, and how they all work hard together to ensure that each dog goes to the right home. The organization is solely run by volunteers. They have a passion for truly helping and loving dogs. We worked with them for a long time before ultimately adopting our sweet puppy, Max. He came from an abuse case and was emaciated and very sick when he was rescued. The people at Florida Urgent Rescue made sure that he got the best veterinary care to give him the best chance at survival. His foster mom nurtured him and helped to prepare our puppy for his new home. They encouraged us to take the time we needed with play dates and sleepovers to make sure that he would get along with our other dog before we made the final adoption decision. Rather than just allowing anyone to take any dog, they work hard to set each adoption up for success and to make sure that their precious dogs end up in great homes. If you are looking for a wonderful organization to support, Florida Urgent Rescue is the best in the area.

This organization does everything they can to help at-risk dogs get into safe foster homes, get the vet care they need (which is often extensive) and then match them with adopters who are the best fit for those dogs. FUR also helps people, shelters and rescues affected by disasters to ease the suffering of families and pets in affected areas and get abandoned pets to safety and on to new homes, when that is what's needed.

We cannot say enough positive things about FUR and their team. Not only do they make sure that they really understand the dynamics of your family and current pets, but the relationship and support doesn't stop once you agree to foster or adopt. They are with you for the long haul and offer any help and guidance that they can if you need it.

Meet our boy, Helio, who we suspect had been hit by a car. He was picked up by Putnam Co as a stray, had an injury and was sent to UF and had surgery to fix his tibia.

Helio's foster brought him to us so we could meet him. We intended to foster Helio in May of 2021 and instantly feel in love and knew he was meant for us. The first thing that Helio did was jump on my husband's lap (good move)! Our other dogs really took to him as well! This was supposed to be a "sleep over" for a couple of days, but we jumped straight to "He's ours! where do we sign!".

I cannot summarize what a sweet and loving dog Helio is! He has the sweetest and gentlest personality. He has the most soulful eyes. Helio has been one of the best additions to our family. We are so thankful for FUR knowing when a dog is a good fit and when it is just not right. They are outstanding!

We had recently adopted a 1 y/o pit mix last December who is super playful and just full of energy. I enrolled him into a board and train program where he had his first opportunity at having a playmate and was just ecstatic until his buddy had to go back home. He fell into a little depressed state and we felt bad and knew at that moment that we needed to get him a playmate that matched his energy level. He were initially torn between a 1 y/o male dog and a 6 month old lab mix puppy. Initially, we chose the 1 y/o because I wasn't sure we could handle a puppy who was already bigger than our current boy; however, as fate had it, the 1 y/o didn't work out, which bummed me out a bit, but got excited again after our adoption coordinator mentioned another candidate that might fit the bill just right and I almost screamed when she mentioned, Alfie, who happened to be our second choice. I am a firm believer that things happen for a reason. We pushed forward with the home visit and then the sleep over. We fell in love with him at first site. Now we just needed the 2 boys to get along. Naturally, with both being partial pits, playtime was a bit rough and since I never owned pits before, I wanted to get my trainer's opinion on their behavior before making the big decision and our FUR coordinator worked with me throughout the entire process. She didn't want me to feel pressured into making a life-long decision I wasn't comfortable with which I greatly appreciated. It goes to show that they don't just approve adoptions to free themselves of the responsibility. They truly want to make sure they're placing the pets into loving and safe homes. We're almost 3 weeks in since he joined our little family and we couldn't be any happier. His foster mom was great throughout the entire process as well with regards to answering questions I had about him and what he likes and his habits. He was well trained and behaves very well. Super big cuddling buddy. If you are considering adopting a new family member, consider FUR!!!

Through the whole adoption process, the people at FUR were outstanding. Jana did the phone interview and was so professional, sweet and helpful. Suzie did our home visit and was so excited for our family and so informative. Then Courtney, our puppy's foster mom made the surprise for our boys so special! She came to our house and brought Porsche to surprise the boys. It was so fun, she was so accommodating and had taken such good care of our sweet girl. The transition was easy. She answered all of our questions and was so patient with our kids.
Everyone at FUR was available and helpful when we needed recommendations for a Vet, to schedule surgery, and everything in between. Their love for the animals that they rescue is very evident. We are so THANKFUL that we found FUR and are so happy with our new family member!

We are so appreciative and recommend FUR to anyone!

This non profit is very near and dear to my heart. They are completely volunteer run and take on the dogs that nobody else seems to be able to. They are super hero’s. Courtney, one of their volunteers, is so passionate about helping animals but is also organized and gets things done.

I saw on their Facebook about 2 years ago that they had found some puppies in a plastic bin on the side of the road. All other shelters were full so of course FUR took them on. I ended up adopting one of the babies. Courtney made the process easy and was there to answer any of our questions every step of the way.

She did a home visit, which I appreciated the effort they put in making sure the dogs they rescue will end up in stable, safe, long-term homes. After we adopted she gave us puppy food and all the other puppy supplies we might need. She continued to check in on us over the next months to make sure everything was going well and if we needed anything.

We even got invited to one of our puppies litter mates first birthday party!!

We love our pup more than anything in the world and we have FUR and Courtney to thank for that. This non profit has passionate volunteers which is key to good care for the animals but they also are organized and effective which is what any great non profit needs to truly succeed.

Thank you FUR and thank you Courtney for all you do for our communities and the animals that need our help.

We adopted our sweet Ax two years ago from FUR after they pulled him for a shelter just hours from being euthanized. We had all intentions on fostering Ax, but we fell in love with him. Even after the adoption Fur has continued to answer all my questions and help us with issues. They have gone above and beyond getting Ax into cancer trials to cure is cancer and they love him as much as we do. We always recommend FUR!

I was trying to help a family overwhelmed with dogs in a SE Georgia county without any animal services. Dogs were dumped on this family's dirt road weekly. At the time there were 30+ dogs living on their property. All the family could afford was food. These dogs were living in very poor conditions without vetting. Mama dogs continuing to have more dogs. I contacted several rescues in SE Georgia with a "can't help" response or no response at all. I decided to go out on a limb and ask for help from Florida Urgent Rescue. I received an immediate response back with "how can we help!" I talked to Mike and Susan several times on the phone and they put a plan into action. The plan was suppose to be four Beagles, two males and two females. I got the females off the property and to a local vet and then the owner (with dementia) would not let me have the males. FUR's plan was to vet all four Beagles and get them to a rescue in Pennsylvania. The plan had to be changed for just the two females. Mike and Susan were very patient and transferred the two females. A few weeks later I was able to get the males and FUR came through again with vetting and transport. Five more hound mixes were removed from the property and FUR again vetted and transferred these dogs. FUR saved these nine dogs from living in terrible conditions and saved their lives. ❤️

11/17/2021 my entire life changed, I was blessed with my Fur baby… known to FUR as Maya… but is now Maya Rose. She is a diva. She has her daddy wrapped around her paws. I was extremely impressed with the process FUR goes through from beginning to end! Now that I have Maya Rose it warms my heart to that not everyone is accepted and everyone is put under a thorough examination before these precious babies are released into their homes. That’s what I love about FUR…the babies come before your money or your feelings. I think Maya may need a sister

I fostered a dog named Zoe, that FUR rescued from a backyard breeder...she was a senior that ended up being pregnant, but we dod not know that...Zoe gave birth to one liitle pup, and and I named her Chloe...Chloe was weak and Zoe really didnt want to feed her, so one of Mike's crew came over every day to weigh her, feed her, even tho I had been trying...and we kept her warm...but finally they decided to take her to one of the other poodle they rescued that also gave birth....but Chloe wasn't developed enough...so Mike came to get her and took her immediatly to his vet...everyone tried saving her...Ivd never seen anyone try so hard. Sadly chloe was just so underdeveloped inside her tiny body and she passed...Mike called me and told me and I could tell he was really upset too. Zoe was spayed at the right time after that, and was adopted by the most awesome humans on this earth...I still get to see her every now and then and she is thriving, but none of this would have been possible without Mike Merril and his rescue.

I stand behind their mission statement and love that they help with disaster relief all over the country and even the world. FL Urgent Rescue is a wonderful nonprofit that has helped so many animals in need. My neighbor introduced me to this team and I've been fostering when I can over the last year. F.U.R. puts in so much energy and care when placing animals into foster or forever homes. They've given me the support I needed when fostering dogs and no pressure when I can't. Fostering for FUR has been a game changer for our family. We have fostered for other organizations and never had the support or opportunities FUR provides. Leadership cares deeply about every animal in their care, and they cultivate strong relationships with their volunteers. We are so thankful we found them in 2020. Over 15 foster dogs and one foster fail (adopted our most recent foster puppy) later - we plan to stick with them for the long haul. ♥️

We had an fantastic experience with FUR, highly recommend. It's important to remember and appreciate that the volunteers at FUR are parents, husbands and wives, full-time employees and people just like the rest of us with very busy lives---they're volunteering their time because they love animals and they want to make a difference---be patient, and give them the benefit of the doubt---they are doing amazing, necessary work! We adopted Newt, a one-year old pit, lab, boxer'ish mix. He benefited so much from the love and training he received in his foster home, we received a puppy with basic training who was very ready to integrate into our home and family because of the amazing care and attention he received. We got a gem---he is smart, sweet, loving, gentle, dog and people friendly and generally a GREAT dog. SO grateful to FUR and their volunteers for all the hard work they do. We HIGHLY recommend rescue adoption with FUR, their dogs have had the benefit of a foster home, which helps tremendously when trying to find the right match for the dog and your family. Please give FUR and these great dogs a chance, adopt a great dog locally!

Hi, we are so pleased with the process and support received from FUR and our hearts are so full with the joy we have from our new adoption. Everyone who volunteers for the organization was professional and helpful. They really care about the work that they do for animals. We were looking to add a second dog to our home. Since we already have one rescue dog and a child at home it was really essential that we find a good fit. The team at FUR were amazing. The support we had with throughout the process was so valuable. They were able to give us tools to use to ease the transition into our home and followed up to make sure we were caring for the dog properly. The 7 day trial period was very helpful in making sure that we did not emotionally rush into adopting and then have the heartache of making a choice that was not right for our family or the new dog. Now we have a new buddy for our current dog which is such a win and far exceeds our expectations! Our son loves the new dog and she is so deserving of a good home. We were debating about adopting for 2 years and the process and results have been more positive than we could have expected. The team really goes above and beyond. Thank you!

Florida Urgent Rescue is an amazing rescue. When our foster went missing they spent six weeks , going to the same location every day to catch her even though they didn't know me and she wasn't a F.U.R. dog. This was through all the holidays and some just awful weather. Addie wouldn't have ever made it home without the dedication of F.UR. They kept at it when I wanted to give up. F.U.R. also took a chance on a stray senior dog I named Charlie when no one else would. He had huge head masses and was clearly not in good shape. I was able to give him a home and so much love in his final days before we learned he had cancer that was too far along for treatment. F.U.R. let me hold Charlie in my arms and give him kisses as we said goodbye so although we don't know if he felt much love during his life, he knew he was loved at the end. His ashes sit in my cupboard with other animals we've had to say goodbye to. F.U.R. takes chances on dogs other people may passby. They give these animals affection and a chance for a better life. I will forever be a supporter.

We had the privilege of working with FUR 2 years ago. We wanted a rescue and reached out to Mike Merrill and Susan Jones with FUR. I let them know what kind of dog our family was looking for and they matched us with Murphy who is the perfect dog. He is everything we were looking for. Murphy was brought back from Bahamas after the hurricane after being abandoned and being hit by a car and left with a broken leg. They treated his leg and got him all fixed up. They brought him to our home and introduced us. We fell in love immediately. One of the best dogs we’ve ever had. They made sure we were a good fit for Murphy and Murphy was a good fit for us. This organization truly cares about each of their rescues. When we are ready to rescue again we will be back. I can’t thank them enough for helping us complete our family.

In August, I had to say goodbye to my baby girl after 16 yrs. I was devastated, but knew it was the right thing for her. I planned to wait a few months before bringing a new soul to live with me. I had some trips planned and didn’t want to adopt and be gone immediately. I saw “Cindy Lou” on the Facebook page and was immediately drawn to her. I just wasn’t ready and thought surely someone would adopt her right away. I saw her twice more and decided to put in an application thinking I’d waited too long. As luck would have it, timing was perfect. The volunteer group reached out for an interview, worked with me to schedule the home check and made special arrangements to coordinate our meeting. She jumped in my lap that afternoon and never left. We are working on a few things, but I could not be happier with FUR for helping make sure this little one was where she needed to be. She didn’t just get a new mommy, she got an entire extended family. Thank you all!!

I have been so blessed by FUR.
My 3 senior chihuahuas 15,16 and 18 all passed within 2 years of each other which left a very empty place in my heart. I have been wanting a puppy for years but refused to buy one. The day FUR rescued alot of dogs ,July 30th my Joey was born 3 hours later. As soon as the foster posted pics of the newborns i sent in my application and let them know how much i wanted one. I had fostered for FUR once so they knew my home was safe . 10 weeks later i was blessed with my Joey. There are so many people that put in applications but i was picked. Joey is the light of my life. I also have Susie Q who is an older blind dog i got from the pound a few months back. They get so many applications please dont take it personal if u dont hear back. Jacksonville animal care and control always have a great selection of dogs. You just have to check daily and get there early if u found one u like. Emailing them worked best for me. Hoping you all find the fur baby of your dreams. I know i did thanks to FUR.

FUR is a fantastic rescue organization. They have a passion for their animal rescues and ensuring they go to good homes. All the fosters are wonderful and communication is easy. We adopted 2 pups through this org and the foster Mom Courtney and org owners Mike and Susan are like family. I send them updates all the time on how amazing the pups are and how well loved aka spoiled they have gotten. The rescue comes out and does a home inspection before adoption which is great. We got to visit the pups with the foster Mom and even had them over for a play date to make sure our existing pups would get along with the new pups. FUR really makes sure that the pups are a good addition before approving applications. Courtney would even send us pics and updates on the pups before our adoption even became official. It really helped us bond to our babies and made for such a great experience. I recommend FUR to all my friends who are in the market for a rescue pup aka the best kind of pups. NOTE: I call all dogs puppies so just know you can get puppies or older dogs through FUR as they rescue all ages. I have so much love for this rescue and the people who run it. The majority of the animals they rescue are from rural “kill” shelters, and the passion and dedication they show to help these animals is absolutely amazing. We got our sweet girl Paloma from FUR in July 2022, and they went above and beyond for us! The process to adopt may seem to be a lot by some people, but if you think about it, if they are truly helping these animals, they should be thorough in making sure that they go to the best home possible. What’s really the point of being a rescue if they aren’t absolutely sure that the dogs are going to good homes? They don’t want them to end up back at a shelter. I’m so passionate about this rescue that I’ve also become a foster. It’s so worth it to show these dogs what love truly is and finding that “forever” home for them ❤️

FUR helped us rescue Maddie from a high kill shelter in Jacksonville. I live in NJ and Mike approved the adoption and put Maddie with a foster until my
Visit to key west was over and we were able to drive to Jacksonville to pick her up.

Mike drove through hurricane Matthew to rescue her along with two other pregnant dogs who were having puppies within days.

I had just had to put my Scottish Terrier to sleep a few weeks earlier due to bladder cancer and happen to see a picture on F.U.R of this adorable white Scottie up for adoption. I couldn't take my eyes off of the photo. I knew that Bella belonged in my home even though it had been so soon after my Bagpipe had died. I spoke with Mary and Chris after filling out my application and was approved to take Bella home. I didn't need the normal one week time frame to make up my mind, I know I wanted Bella permanently. The sweet little girl had heart worms and had never been spayed even though she was 8 years old. I had never dealt with a dog with heart worms since I always gave my pets the monthly heartworm medication. Mary and Chris helped to educate me on how heartworms affected Bella and the extensive treatment that went along with adopting her. It was a long process and took months to get rid of the heartworms and then analyze the damage. She was placed on heart medication which made a huge difference in her energy level and personality. It has been a year and a half since I brought Bella home and she is quite the spoiled girl. She likes her routine which includes a park visit every day and her walk before bedtime around the block. She loves chewing on bones or chew sticks along with chasing all of the lizards in the backyard. She is very territorial and barks at any cats or wildlife that might wonder on to the premises. Since I'm retired I can take Bella everywhere with me including vacations where she can chase crabs on the beach. Bella makes my day and has done more for me than I could ever do for her. Thanks to all at F.U.R. for allowing me the privilege of taking care of this most precious little girl.

A friend brought to my attention a Great Pyrenees stray at animal control who was emaciated and in need of medical care, knowing I had prior experience with the breed. I agreed to foster him and Mike Merrill, founder of F.U.R. (Florida Urgent Rescue) agreed to pull him for me. Within 2 days Gabe was delivered to us, gravely underweight, eye, ear, stomach infections and heartworm positive. Mike advocated for a vet near my home to take over Gabe’s care and did everything possible to help us through the foster process. Now 14 mos later, Gabe is happy and healthy and I have formally adopted him. I am hoping to be able to foster again in the future through F.U.R. due to the seamless and rewarding experience we had.

I adopted my pit bull mix Momo from FUR in July 2020. I cannot emphasize enough how happy I am that I adopted through FUR; they help all potential adopters find the perfect dog for them, and find the perfect owners for their rescues. The time and care FUR's volunteers put into their organization makes them truly above and beyond in every aspect of the adoption process. I am so grateful for them. Momo is my best friend; I couldn't ask for a better furry companion! I was a first time dog owner, and they helped me every step of the way. Momo was heartworm positive when I first got him, and FUR supported both of us through his treatment, which can be long and arduous for many heartworm positive dogs. Momo made it through his treatment and came out stronger than ever.

FUR makes sure their rescues find their forever homes. If you are looking to adopt, I can't recommend FUR enough.

I have volunteered with FUR for about 3 years and am grateful to be a part of this special organization. For FUR, it's all about the dogs (and occasionally a few cats!). FUR goes the extra mile every time to save dogs that have little to no chance for a decent life--or any life at all since many are severely injured, scared, or even scheduled for euthanization. FUR brings these dogs into foster homes where their needs can be met--often for the first time in their lives. They are given love, needed veterinary care, socialization, and training. Once the dogs are ready for adoption, FUR makes every effort to ensure they're adopted into homes that will love them for the rest of their lives like the family members they are. FUR dogs often go from no life at all to living life to the fullest.

At the same time, FUR leadership is very appreciative of the efforts made by each volunteer. Though the Merrills have their hands full with the many aspects of rescue, they always take time to thank those who step up and help save dogs and find them their ideal homes.

Thank you, FUR, for making the world a better place for the dogs rescued and for the people who adopted them.

Mike Merrill and I met volunteering at our local shelter ( ACAPS) in Jacksonville Florida. Mike worked with the Dogs as I Fostered the cats/kittens. I have only heard positive uplifting, compassionate, understanding, patience and love about FUR( Florida Urgent Rescue. After losing my best friend Max, I wasn’t looking for another dog, but after a year 1/2, I felt my heart was ready to try and adopt a shelter/ Rescue dog. We tried two prior to meeting Sadie. Mike brought her over for a Meet & Greet. After 15 minutes having her and looking into those eyes, I knew she was mine. She is the complete opposite of my Max but the one thing she’s the same is not bothering all my cats. She’s just a lovely dog. FUR is one of the best Rescues to adopt a pet. Their procedures, follow-ups, taking back pet’s is the reason I love this Rescue. I will always Recommend FUR first to any potential adopters looking for the right pet( family member) into their home.

We adopted Cash from Florida Urgent Rescue in August 2019. We knew we needed a dog and cat friendly pet to fit into our existing household, but other than that we were pretty open to what might be the "right" dog. I saw a post from FUR on social media about Cash. He immediately captured my heart. Cash was a neglect case, having been abandoned after his elderly owner died and other family members left him behind. When I look back on his medical records collected by FUR, I can’t believe he weighed 20 pounds less when they rescued him than he does now. He was also heartworm positive. FUR took him in and personally fostered Cash until he recovered. I followed his progress the whole time, reaching out several times to Mike, FUR Director, about adopting him. I just had a feeling he was the right dog for us. We did a meet and greet, then a two week sleepover, and then a happy adoption. We love our sweet boy Cash so much.

I noticed when we first got Cash that he was very vigilant of his surroundings at home. He had a hard time just relaxing to take a nap. If there was the slightest noise, his eyes would fly open. Now, he loves his naps (and snoring), and it takes a lot more to wake him up than it does for him to fall asleep. It makes me feel good to know that he trusts us, and that he knows he is loved. Without FUR, Cash would not have had this second chance that he so deserved. FUR is amazing. They target saving the lives of dogs in the most urgent situations not just locally but globally, and put “boots on the ground” to save them. Their dedication to the lives of animals is unparalleled. It’s very important to also note that FUR is actively involved in the community when it comes to tracking and finding missing and lost dogs. I experienced this firsthand several years before adopting Cash. There was a car crash near our neighborhood and a dog escaped the vehicle and ran into the dense marsh. He was missing for weeks. At the time, our home bordered the marsh, and Mike canvassed the area and asked if folks could place an item of clothing from the owner and some dog food in our backyard. We did. What is amazing about this story is that the dog, Luna, emerged from the marsh and into our neighborhood within a week or two after this and was reunited with her ecstatic owner. That experience with FUR really informed my decision to adopt from them later. They go above and beyond to help animals (and their humans) and always have their best interests at heart. I am beyond grateful to this rescue.

We adopted Liko 3 years ago through F.U.R. and the entire process was amazing. I was initially interested in an older female hound dog, but after Mary came to the home visit it was decided that our chocolate lab would be too much for her. They invited us to an adoption event they were having and that’s where we found Liko.
Mike and Susan were trapping and rescuing his mother and litter mates in the woods, but he had been separated from them and was able to get brought in sooner. They spent weeks taking the time to socialize this scared little puppy before they took him to the adoption event.
When Mike brought him to our house he helped us introduce him to our other dog and it was love at first sight. He was the missing piece that we had been searching for. I can’t imagine not having Liko in our lives. He’s goofy, sweet and so so happy. F.U.R. still keeps in touch and I love showing them pictures of Liko at dog daycare or on adventures with his brother. I was even able to connect with 2 of his litter mates through F.U.R. and he gets to take walks on the beach with them.

I adopted Maverick with FUR in 2016! And still 6+ years later Mike and his team still keep up with myself and Maverick. You can not find a more honest, caring hands on team.

Special dogs come with special instructions and Maverick was definitely special. They informed me how he came from several homes that passed him around and the story was always the same, the homes were unsafe. They would hurt and neglect my sweet boy. When I first adopted Mav based on this background the team made sure I had some assistance with the basics, walking on a leash and a few commands. They required that we both immediately got into a dog training class. Which was well needed, my sweet pup never had any one to love him and didn't know what leash or dog bed was and FUR wanted to make sure to set us both up for success. In the months after I adopted Maverick, they would check up on how we were doing, offer insights and even answered a panic call or two from me (because sometimes dog ownership is hard and scary).

Maverick is my best companion, my 4 legged child. He has rode out hurricanes, lived in 3 states with me and is always ready to play, go for a walk or curl up and take a nap. You cannot find a better rescue to adopt your next 4 legged family member from.

I've adopted two beautiful dogs from FUR, River in 2016, and Cocoa in 2021.
River was about to be euthanized in a shelter after being removed from a hoarder when FUR pulled her and gave her a safe landing place until she was adoptable. She was my loyal, sensitive, perfect dog and best friend for five great years.

Cocoa was returned from her adopters and I fostered her for FUR. FUR provided training to help with her reactivity, and gave me useful enrichment ideas. Their input helped me see I could adopt her and provide a good home for her. Cocoa is blind but that never stops her from enjoying life and spreading happiness wherever she goes.

FUR works hard on behalf of the animals that need extra care before they're ready for their forever home. They work to save the difficult, urgent, cases. They are a bare bones operation that relies on a team of hardworking volunteers and fosters. The founder and a small team receiving a salary have deep knowledge of animal behavior and the world of rescue, and they put their heart and soul into what they do.
They are highly respected in the local community and beyond, as their rescue operations take them to other states and on occasion, other countries. They are quick to respond to natural disasters throughout the south, and work closely with local rural shelters to save dogs who have run out of time.
This is an organization to which I regularly donate money, knowing my money will be used for the animals.

In 2019, we lost our Lola dog. We were devastated. Just 3 days later, Mike did a presentation at my workplace featuring Rudy. Rudy was a black lab who was found in the Everglades. He had been attacked by a wild boar. Florida Urgent Rescue took the call and brought him in. He spent over a year in medical and boarding. He was fearful and had PTSD. The folks at FUR never gave up on him. We heard his story and went to meet him. Rudy rolled over at my feet. A few days later he came to live with us. We immediately renamed him Buddy. Over the next year, we taught him to play and to trust. He taught us to love again. When he passed away unexpectedly, our home was so...empty. We again reached out to FUR with details on what we were looking for. Mike said to meet him at a local rural shelter to meet Apollo. Apollo was scheduled to be euthanized because he had been there too long and space was needed. He went home with us that night. This boy has brought love, joy and laughter into our lives. The FUR team works tirelessly to find the right fit for every dog that comes into FUR. They care for the animals with love and dedication. Because of our experience with Florida Urgent Rescue, we now volunteer with them! I highly recommend them!

Mike and his team have the ability to help dogs that other people would absolutely turn their back on, rehab them and find them loving homes. My first rescue through FUR is Annie - the sweetest, most lovable dog you will ever meet. She was about to be put down do to over crowding. She needed surgery and had obviously been neglected and abused. FUR saved her but not only did they save her - they raised money for her surgery, got her into a wonderful foster home where she rehabilitated and learned about love and then we were blessed to adopt her. At the time I was extra nervous because I had a dog, Mikey, who had been the only dog in our home forever and I was not sure how he would respond. I told Mike about my concerns and he did 2 meet and greets at my home. He stayed and helped us introduce the dogs to each other and made sure everything went as smooth as possible. We then did a sleep over to see if it was a good fit and thankfully it was! Another positive about FUR is they really look at the applicants before they will let them adopt a dog. The foster reviewed my application in addition to Mike, they called with questions and made sure my home was safe. I respect them a lot for that. We adopted Annie right away and it must have been meant to be because Mikey, my dog of 12 years got sick and passed away about a month later. Annie was there for my family during a very dark time. Well, some time went by and I just wanted Annie to have a friend. She loves all dogs and people and we had the room in our home and our hearts for another dog. My kids had never had a puppy and I wanted them to have that experience at least once. So back to FUR I went. Again - a litter of puppies found in a bin in the street and taken to a shelter was rescued by FUR. I was so excited!! This was meant to be! I talked to Susan and she got me in touch with the foster and we adopted Tiko! Again, FUR wants adopters to be responsible so they helped us get him fixed as well as his shots and off to training we went. It’s been a great experience again! These 2 love each other so much and I owe that to FUR and the great people they have surrounded themselves with. Both fosters have stayed in touch. They have a fb page where we all help each other and share updates and pictures. It’s a community of people with big hearts that want to help these animals. Some of these dogs they take in have been to hell and back and FUR welcomes them and changes their lives. We are very grateful to have found them.

Mike and his team at FUR go above and beyond as a rescue team. We adopted our Allie and Daphne almost 4 years ago. This we are greatful for but there is more to the story as to why we are so lucky to have both dogs still together who are bonded sisters. While taking Allie to her first vet visit she broke from her leash and ran into a neighborhood with surrounding wooded areas. Mike and his team from FUR were on the scene immediately with flyers and constant searching in the area. After 5 days of tracking and searching Mike was able to bring allie back to us. Along with those 5 days 2 other missing dogs were found as well. The FUR team is amazing and we will always donate or help in anyway we can to help them, as they were there for us to bring back our little girl to us and her sister.
