Review for Florida Urgent Rescue Inc, Jacksonville, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've adopted two beautiful dogs from FUR, River in 2016, and Cocoa in 2021.
River was about to be euthanized in a shelter after being removed from a hoarder when FUR pulled her and gave her a safe landing place until she was adoptable. She was my loyal, sensitive, perfect dog and best friend for five great years.

Cocoa was returned from her adopters and I fostered her for FUR. FUR provided training to help with her reactivity, and gave me useful enrichment ideas. Their input helped me see I could adopt her and provide a good home for her. Cocoa is blind but that never stops her from enjoying life and spreading happiness wherever she goes.

FUR works hard on behalf of the animals that need extra care before they're ready for their forever home. They work to save the difficult, urgent, cases. They are a bare bones operation that relies on a team of hardworking volunteers and fosters. The founder and a small team receiving a salary have deep knowledge of animal behavior and the world of rescue, and they put their heart and soul into what they do.
They are highly respected in the local community and beyond, as their rescue operations take them to other states and on occasion, other countries. They are quick to respond to natural disasters throughout the south, and work closely with local rural shelters to save dogs who have run out of time.
This is an organization to which I regularly donate money, knowing my money will be used for the animals.

Review for K9s For Warriors, Ponte Vedra, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I'm about to begin my third year of volunteering for this organization, and everything I wrote in my reviews in 2012 and 2013 holds true today in 2014. This is a growing organization and they are now in a position to serve and save even more veterans, and save more dogs, yet they maintain their personal touch and service. Highly recommended for volunteers, for donors, and for veterans suffering from PTSD who will benefit from the liberating support and love of a service dog.

Rating: 5 stars

I've been volunteering for K9s for Warriors for over a year, and my respect for everything this organization stands for and stands behind has not wavered. The organization works tirelessly on behalf of the warriors they serve. They have a growing, dedicated volunteer base and a small but powerful staff. There is no better volunteer opportunity that I know of than spending time hanging out and playing with some of the sweetest, smartest dogs you'll ever meet. I know that these (mostly rescue!) dogs will soon have a very important role to fill as service dogs for veterans suffering from PTSD, and it is extremely rewarding to know that as a volunteer I've had a small part in the recovery that lies ahead.

As a dog lover with a personal interest in serving veterans with PTSD, this volunteer opportunity can't be beat! As a member of the "K9s Army", I've experienced an immediate connection to a group of people who are passionate in their determination to make a difference in veterans lives. There's a variety of volunteer opportunities, from playing with the great rescue dogs awaiting their warriors, to working at fund raising events, to preparing meals and cleaning. K9s for Warriors appreciates their volunteers and makes us feel that we are an important part of their success.
