Mission: Founded in 1995, Ferret Wise Rescue and Rehabilitation Shelter works toward the prevention of cruelty to all animals and provides education and emergency rehabilitation specifically to the domestic ferret as an assist to humane shelters. More than 180,000 domestic ferrets enter the U.S. through the pet industry each year as the third most popular domestic animal. The domestic ferret has few shelter facilities which will care for them. Ferret Wise is a critical care rehabilitation & education facility devoted to providing rehabilitation of abuse & neglect ferrets obtained in cruelty investigations. A range of outreach education programs are targeted to the lay community and humane workers as well. FWR&RS provides educational opportunities to the purchasers of pet ferrets, in an effort to reduce the numbers that are abandoned to wander in the outdoors until they perish from starvation, dehydration or predators. FWR&RS also provides humane worker education to assist other shelter and rescue entities to provide care for the domestic ferret.
