Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue is a great organization that rescues, cares for, and finds good home for donkeys and mules that have been abused, neglected, or are just no longer wanted. These beautiful animals come to the farm in pretty bad shape, many never having been handled with kindness. The women who 'run' this organization are very much hands on experienced donkey & mule owners who know how to provide these wonderful animals with the environment, care, and training they so desperately need.
I have been a long-time supporter of Save Your Ass, and I think they do wonderful work rescuing donkeys and other long-ears.
We have worked with SYALER a few times over the years and we absolutely love them!!! Whenever we have our own long ear questions they are our first stop. They have a wealth of knowledge and years of experience to share. The care for those that with them is nothing short of top notch. Can’t recommend them enough!
One of the best things about Save Your Ass, and there are many, is that they showcase the benefits of positive reinforcement-based training for equids. Hannah Allen, who runs the rescue currently, learned her trade from founder Ann Firestone in their many years of working together. Hannah is continuing the traditions while extending the enterprise with her own expertise. It's a joy to watch SYA develop.
As a long-ear lover, I had been following SYALER's website and social media for several years. Not only do they provide excellent and compassionate care for their equine, but play a part in public education about the proper care and handling of donkeys an mules - who are not simply long-eared horses! It wasn't long before I adopted Jasper. I appreciated the ease at which the rescue worked with me to find the right partner for my other donkey, while remaining judicious about the quality and appropriateness of my home and setup to support him. It doesn't take long to find that the donkey "world" is somewhat small - the team at SYALER is trustworthy and above all else, ethical. I am proud to work with and support them!
I’ve been a part of SYA for a few years now and it’s been amazing seeing all the mules and donkeys that have come and gone! They take the time to know the donkeys or mules that come in and help them in any way they need! All before they find their new home!!
This rescue is amazing. The love and support they give these animals is incredible. Whether they come in sick or healthy, they give them the attention they need to get them to the point of being able to be adopted. Seeing them work with the extremely malnutrition ones and getting them on a specialized diet to the one of terrible neglect of their hooves, they are right there. 24/7 the barn manager/president is there doing everything she can for these beautiful animals. I just wish i could donate more often.
Donkeys are extremely bright creatures. Smarter than most other equines. Very loyal and easy to train if you can earn their trust.
I just love that this nonprofit rescues and rehabs these amazing animals. They do such a great job, that I donate monthly to assist them. I’ve had mules (also incredible animals) and currently have horses. Please note that it is expensive to care for these loving animals. Consider donating to Save Your Ass!!! You really should!!!
Save Your Ass Long Ear Rescue is an amazing non profit that has and continues to help many donkeys in need of sanctuary before finding their forever homes!
I’ve been a donor for quite a few years and I am so grateful for SYA rescue. Always thought I’d own donkeys but life went a different direction and I’m so glad i can get my donkey fix through SYA.
They are so wonderful and committed to their animals. And I’ve learned so much about donkeys.
Hannah’s stories and photos are just a happy place for me. I can’t say enough good things.
SYA is a terrific organization run by folks who know their stuff. They bring the highest level of care to the long ears in their custody! Plus they are generous with their knowledge and expertise. Yay SYA!
Having co- founded and run SYALER for many years, it was hard to retire. The decision to do so was made much easier knowing I was “handing over the reins” to Hannah. She had been working with me for over seven years and I knew “my baby” would be in the best hands with her. I put my heart and soul, as well as my blood, sweat, and tears into creating a healing, healthy, honest, and ethical environment for animals and their people. I know Hannah will continue to do the same.
We adopted two donkeys and a mule from SYALER. The facilities are great, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and they continue to be a great resource for us 7 years after the adoption.
Absolutely incredible and caring nonprofit, really puts their Heart and soul into everything they do for the donkeys♥️
SYA is an awesome rescue. My husband and I have adopted 4 standard donkeys, 2 mini donkeys, and 1 mini mule from SYA. Ann is a very caring person who takes excellent care of the rescues, nursing them back to health and finding them their perfect homes. And she is always available after adopting for your questions or advice. Each animal gets individual attention and lots of love. 3 of my donkeys were in bad shape when they came into the rescue but thanks to Ann and SYA, they are now thriving.
