During my long career I worked for many different companies and institutions, and I have to say that Charleston Animal Society has become my favorite one. The staff is highly dedicated to the welfare of the various animals in their care. Everyone is very knowledgeable, and simply a joy to work with. Despite having been a volunteer for many years now - spay/neuter clinic, laundry, enrichment, fundraising events, special projects, clerical support - I am still getting only a glimpse of all the many activities and programs that are going on behind the scenes. It is amazing for me to see busloads of cats and dogs being brought in from other shelters to be spayed and neutered in addition to their own. I always like to compare CAS to a well-oiled machine because they can accomplish so much.

What was supposed to be a couple of months has turned into 6 years of the most wonderful journey anyone could ask for. Horses, their behaviors, their habits, their care, I really didn't know much until I came to Serenity. I have gotten a wonderful education in horse and human behavior. I have seen horses come to the rescue broken both physically and emotionally and with tender care and love seen them become whole again. The horses are not the only reason to volunteer at Serenity; the people are amazing. We work as teams, supporting each other and lifting each other up. I have enjoyed my time working with fellow volunteers and have made some wonderful friendships. If you are looking for a place to work outside, meet great people and give to these wonderful animals, Serenity is your place.

VOLUNTEER, DONOR Best Friends Animal Society is Heaven on Earth. I have been travelling there from Pennsylvania twice a year for 17+ years. Their passion, mission, dedication and devotion are unsurpassed. They follow through on their promises. They respect and love each and every animal that comes into their care. The caregivers are exceptional human beings. Extremely hard working - because they truly care, not because it's 'work'. The values of the people are pure and they have an incredible amount of knowledge of animals and rescues - and especially those whom they care for. The sanctuary is beautiful, peaceful, organized and well run. I cannot say enough about this place that has literally added one of the most important aspects to my life and my heart.

We have attended several classes with our puppy and have had great experiences at all of them. The trainers are very nice and not "judgy". (But that doesn't mean they are going to let you slack off. They will let you know when you may need to put in more effort but will do so in a very nice manner.) They welcome any questions you have and are good about adjusting to your dog's needs. Their classes not only train the standard obedience commands, but also share additional ways to help keep your dog safe in unexpected situations. The instructors seem to really want to help you do the best job raising a well-behaved and well-adjusted dog. We have had great training experiences here and our dog is always happy and tired after class. I highly recommend ABRT for anyone who has a new puppy or rescue. If you are willing to put in the effort, I believe you will come away with a great dog and a wonderful relationship with them.

I cannot recommend the Warrior Dog Foundation highly enough! This organization truly does incredible work for the Military Working Dogs and special operations K9s who have given everything to protect us. Steve

We did a private tour on April. The tour guide give a lot of information on the behavior of the wolf dog, they might look like dogs but they behave very different. You can pet them and at the end one of the wolf dog he comes to you and you can give him treats. The background of the wolf dogs is very sad.

I had my dog neutered at the NOAH Center and the process from start to finish was very easy. The staff was friendly and professional, and the instructions were very clear. Thank you, NOAH!

I volunteer as a Team Facilitator with Atlas Assistance Dogs, and cannot praise this organization highly enough. The organization is deeply mission-driven, powered by passionate staff and volunteers who truly believe in the work being done. The clients are committed to the work of training their dogs to high standards, and the staff supporting clients and facilitators make sure that everyone feels taken care of.

Hi..I adopted my dog Riley (AKA Scooter) from CCPAL rescue 4 months ago..he is a dachshund/chihuahua mix and one of the sweetest, loving dogs ever!! I feel the people at CCPAL truly care for their rescue dogs..it is evident from the phone conversations, videos and the phone interview I had with Sheila and from the health and disposition of my new best friend. If I had any questions they were always available to answer them and they made the whole process.. from my first phone call to the transport from Texas to Minnesota..so easy. I would highly recommend adopting from CCPAL..it was a great experience from start to finish and most importantly the dedication and care they have for these dogs is top notch. (When I play a video I saved of Riley from his time there and he hears Alice's voice his ears go up and he looks around for her..I feel he must have gotten alot of love and attention there to be the sweet dog he is...) Thank you everyone at CCPAL!!

SRC (Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas) saves endangered canines (primarily Schnauzers) from abuse, neglect and euthanasia. The volunteers are committed to assuring each rescued dog receive compassionate care. Once fully vetted, they are evaluated by foster parents and then they are adopted into loving adoptive homes by application process. SRC stands behind the adoptions and will accept their return at any time with ample notice. SRC’s commitment to the rescued dog lasts their full lifetime. SRC’s approved vets provide a thorough medical evaluation and address any medical needs the canine may have. Prior to adoption each dog is examined by a vet and any medical needs are addressed. SRC has been operating for over 22 years and I have been their Director. It is a blessing to be able to save so many canines as our worthy mission. To date SRC has helped over 5K dogs and placed them in great adoptive homes.

We are so grateful to this shelter for bringing Hades into our lives. Hades, our German Shepherd/Mastiff mix, came from a difficult situation and was very anxious when we first started fostering him. The staff was incredible from the beginning — always checking in, offering advice, and making sure we felt supported every step of the way. It truly felt like they cared about setting both Hades and our family up for success. The transition wasn’t always easy at first, but we quickly fell in love with our gentle giant. With patience and lots of love, Hades slowly began to relax and show us his true personality. Now he loves his toys (especially tennis balls), going on walks, and snuggling up with me, my husband, and our two young sons. Watching him grow into the happy, loving dog he is today has been such a gift. We can’t thank this shelter enough for their dedication and support. They truly change lives — both for the animals and the families who adopt them. 🐾❤️

The League is truly the best! This team cares for animals in need 365 days of the year. I love seeing how they have started helping families and their pets in the community.

My husband and I visited in November and we were completely enchanted. But mostly, we were struck by the passion and unbelievable dedication of its founder, Dorothea. She does mostly everything, with the help of some volunteers. But mainly, it’s Dorothea. It’s wonderful to be able to be so close to these very special creatures. Highly recommend a visit.

We are constantly impressed with the mission and delivery of this organization. We love, love, love this group. Please keep doing what you're doing.

Guardian Angels is a wonderful non profit that serves this community as a whole. They rescue, raise, train, & donate highly skilled service dogs to veterans and first responders with visible/invisible disabilities—at no cost to them. They also cover ongoing veterinary care, training, & mental health support for recipients & their families.

I wish I could say good things about this foundation. Our experience was difficult because the staff member we interacted with, Robin Doniger, was rude and made the atmosphere uncomfortable. I share this so others know what to expect. I hope the environment can become better in the future.

Can Do Canines has been an excellent organization from which to receive a dog for my wife to work with her facility dog, ultimately changing the lives of many patients and families. Additionally, we have attended and volunteered with them at numerous events. The professionalism, as well as the stories from their clients and staff about the lives they have changed, are genuinely inspiring. They are the best non-profit I have worked with!

My family has had the privilege of volunteering at White Bird, and it has been a wonderful experience for our family. Tom is exceptionally kind and demonstrates a deep passion and commitment to the wellbeing of every horse that comes into their care. Through volunteering, my daughter has gained valuable hands on experience learning about horse care, behavior, and the responsibilities involved in horse ownership. It has been both educational and inspiring to see the level of dedication and compassion that goes into rescuing and rehabilitating these animals. We are truly grateful to be part of such a meaningful organization that makes a real difference in the lives of horses.

Your Dog's Friend is an amazing non-profit for positive, force-free puppy and adult dog training. I originally learned about YDF through our vet, who said it was the only local training facility that she would recommend. That alone says a lot! Through many classes (Puppy Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, Leash Walking and Out & About-some taken more than once for my own reinforcement and enjoyment), I have learned many great skills for working in partnership with my pups. The trainers are top-notch, gifted, caring people who value their clients' successes. They work incredibly hard to ensure a safe, positive environment for pups and their people. The skills I have learned are invaluable. I believe in YDF's philosophy and trainers so passionately that I now volunteer in classes several times a week. I feel so fortunate to be able to volunteer, as I just continue to learn every time I am there. I highly recommend Your Dog's Friend-you will be so glad you found it!

Domino Service Dogs has become my community over the last 5 years. It is a place where, as a person with a disability, I am accepted exactly as I am. Expectations meet me where I am! I am so lucky to have a place to exist as myself, appreciated for the abilities I have and the skills I can use.

honestly if you give your money to this place you are paying for the mistreatment of animals. The staff also is the most rude, entitled bunch I’ve been around in a long time. Imagine having so little care for an animal that they basically throw them away. also them saying that they don’t euthanize is complete bullshit. they say that only “non adoptable dogs” are euthanized and I’m very curious on how they categorize a dog as being nonadoptable. I was there one time looking to adopt and I really liked this one dog, however, they said that that dog wasn’t adoptable yet was very affectionate and docile. wasn’t even an older dog. this whole place is a sad excuse of shelter

The Humane Society of Sedona truly exceeds expectations. Call for a tour and be prepared to be in awe of all of the behind-the-scenes work and care that goes into providing hope, healing, and best of all--new homes--for the homeless animals.

I have saver back a Neck problem some times I can't walk and the help getting upand getting around any were and I don't get along with people sometimes the pain can make me depressed I used to be the best get along with everyone but now I not and I miss it

My 20-year-old daughter, Ruby, is blind and has cognitive disabilities that make many daily tasks challenging. In my search to help her live as independently as possible, 7 years ago, I began exploring the idea of a service dog. But time and again, I was told that because Ruby couldn’t care for a dog independently, a partnership wouldn’t be possible.<br><br>That changed when I met Hero, one of the incredible school resource dogs trained by PawPADs. After seeing how Hero supported students, I reached out to PawPADs to see if they might consider a handler team model where Ruby and I would work together. Unlike other organizations, Linda didn’t shut the door. She took the time to understand Ruby, our unique needs, and whether a dog could truly enhance her life.<br><br>PawPADs doesn’t place dogs to meet quotas—they are deeply committed to finding the right match. Linda was honest with us from the start: there was no guarantee a dog would be placed, and she encouraged us to keep exploring other options while we waited.<br><br>In June 2020, we got the call—Ruby was invited to Partner Training Camp. We were thrilled, though prepared that a match might not happen. But during the first couple days of camp, it quickly became clear that one dog, Charlie, was attuned to Ruby in a way that felt magical. They were a perfect match.<br><br>Since then, Charlie has been Ruby’s constant companion and quiet protector--picking up dropped items, comforting her during difficult moments, and navigating life by her side. He understands her in ways no one else can. He’s changed her life, and our whole family's.<br><br>Because of the impact PawPADs has had on our family, I joined the board in 2020. I’ve seen firsthand the love, care, and integrity this organization brings to every partnership, not only for the people they serve, but also for the incredible dogs they place.<br><br>What sets PawPADs apart is their commitment to doing what’s right. If Dogs Could Talk, They’d All Be Saying “Thank You, Jeremy!”<br><br>It’s not every day you meet someone who seems born to communicate with dogs—but Jeremy Dulebohn? He could probably teach them to speak fluent English if they had the anatomy for it. Jeremy and his team at Dulebohn Service Dogs are nothing short of miracle workers with fur and four legs.<br><br>Jeremy trained our first service dog, and to this day we refer to that dog as the most amazing canine on the planet (and we say that knowing Lassie, Balto, and Toto are out there somewhere shaking their heads). Our second service dog—trained under Jeremy’s guidance—is amazing as well and he is currently training our third dog. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if our next dog starts doing taxes next April. That’s how well-trained and intuitive he is.<br><br>What makes Jeremy and his staff extraordinary isn’t just their skill—it’s their kindness, patience, and absolute consistency. They use positive reinforcement with such finesse that even the most distracted pup becomes a focused, confident partner. Their love and respect for animals—and for the families they support—radiates from everything they do. They aren’t just training dogs.
