This is a charity that truly helps the homeless and also prevents people from becoming homeless. A few years ago I was leaving Ralph's at Malibu Colony Plaza and saw a woman crying unconsolably while sitting at a table next to the store. Turned out she lost her job and didn't have any luck year finding one, she was very late on her rent and was about to be evicted . She kept saying : I can't be on the street with my son, I am a hard worker, I am applying for jobs, I have interviews, I just need a couple more weeks, I need to buy some time! It was devastating... I remembered hearing that a lady I knew from the temple runs an organization that helps people who are about to become homeless. I immediately called her and she agreed to help with the rent .The woman was able to keep her apartment and she did find a good job within a month. She kept calling me to say thank you from different pay phones and one day she proudly called from her new cell phone she was able to afford now, she never asked for anything else , she was just so grateful and she wanted us to know that those few hundred dollars from Feed Your Soul allowed her to keep her home, her family and her dignity . After this event I started volunteering at Feed Your Soul and many times participated in preparing and serving food at Santa Monica homeless shelters. This is a great charity!
