Mission: The mission of Families Helping Families of Greater New Orleans is to educate and connect children and adults with disabilities, and their families to resources, services and supports to attend school, work, and thrive in their community.
Target demographics: Families and individuals with disabilities
Direct beneficiaries per year: 7,500 families of individuals with disabilities and professionals that support families.
Geographic areas served: communities throughout Louisiana.
Programs: 1) Peer-to-Peer Support. FHFofGNO staff is uniquely qualified to provide support to other parents of children and adults with disabilities and special healthcare needs. The support staff is all parents of children or adults with disabilities or special healthcare needs of individuals with disabilities or special healthcare needs. They have not only walked the walk, but they have also conquered navigating the complex service delivery system and built relationships within those systems at the same time. This allows them to talk the talk and teach others how to be successful in getting the services and supports they need for their loved ones. 2) Training. Knowledge is power and FHFofGNO offers over 150 training opportunities every year. We provide training on Special Education, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, Early Intervention, Transition, the DD Service System, Waivers, Medicaid, Communication Skills, Organization Skills, and more. 3) Outreach. FHFofGNO is always participating in outreach events. Our goal is to never meet a family that is in crisis and not sure where to go. Through evaluations and phone interviews, users of our services consistently rank us as one of their most important resources. 98% of individuals report our support is useful. 98% of individuals report our support is relevant. 95% of individuals report our services are high quality.
