open space and wildlife preservation: (issues regarding endangered species, habitats, watersheds, agricultural and open space lands): open-space preservation and education network (open) actively participated in goleta, goleta valley, santa ynez, los alamos, buellton, and gaviota community planning processes as well as land use development code modifications. climate and energy (issues regarding oil and gas development, carbon emmissions and advocacy for sustainability and renewable energy): founded as response to 1969 santa barbra oil spill. Played leading role in response and monitoring of refugio oil spill. Leads efforts against fracking and acidizing off our coast and the expansion of irresponsible oil & gas development including cyclic steam injection, hydraulic fracturing (fracking) & acid well stimulation (acidizing) within our service area. Working to prevent oil trains from transit along ca coast. Working to prevent new or expanded oil leases offshore. Prevented three separate attempts to import liquefied natural gas through our coast. Retired forty offshore oil leases. Chairs santa barbara environmental coalition. Continues to monitor clean-up and restoration of halaco toxic site which edc sued, leading to the closing of the facility, now a superfund site. Ongoing work to assure total mitigation of greenhouse gases
