Under the new CEO the organization is total mess, total failure, staff not returning calls to family members, programs not able to meet the needs of participants.
This is a great service and has helped my family tremendously! I would strongly recommend you speak with Enable to learn more about how they can help. It's a great place to start!
I have been involved with Enable for several years starting as a voluteer on the Gala Commitee and now as a Board Member. The organization has grown over time and cotinues to tirelessly pursue its mission to make better lives for people with disabilitys. This was so evident to me at a recent visit to one of our group homes and and spending time with those indiduals.
During the summer of 2008, I got to know three residents of Enable's Benford group home and write their biographies. First, Enable's Volunteer Coordinator helped match me with a project that would work well for both me and Enable. She explained to me why those particular "consumers" would be best to work with and helped me create a schedule for visiting. As I spent time with the consumers, I saw that the relationships that we formed were mutually beneficial because of the informed and careful way in which Enable matches its consumers with volunteers. The staff at Enable was more than willing to answer any questions that I had about interacting with the consumers, and they always supported the activities that the consumers and I did together. The group home was clean and organized. Each of the three consumers said that, in general, they enjoy living in community with the other consumers and that they like the day trips that the group home staff arrange. The sense of family fostered in the group home created an environment in which the consumers could thrive and be happy. I strongly recommend supporting Enable in its efforts to bring that sense of belonging to even more individuals with disabilities.
My family and I have been involved with Enable from the beginning for over 20 years now. Enable staff, and board go over and beyond to make the life of our clients more fullfilling and rewarding. I am amazed at the hard work and devotion that our staff conducts on a regular basis, and our board and various committes our very active and involved. Enable, their clients, and their clients families have given my family so much more then we have given them. Our experience with Enable has been rich and rewarding. My wife, daughter & son-in-law, son & daughetr-in-law, and now my grandchildren continue to assist Enable in way that may be helful.
I am the guardian of a 54 year old woman with Down's Syndrome. Patricia has been living in an Enable managed Group Home for 15 years. Enable provides her with a safe, caring environment. She is happy in her living situation which is very important to me. Because of the quality of the services that we receive in the Group Home, Patricia has recently moved to the Enable Day Program. I believe that there's an advantage to having her fully immersed in the services of Enable. The agency is providing services for her "whole self" which assures me that her potential will be realized.
