Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Arts & Culture, Human Services, Senior Centers, Seniors, Visual Arts

Mission: Since its beginning in 1955, the mission of Elder Craftsmen has been to help men and women 55 and older be creative, productive and independent, and to seek broader recognition by the general public of the skills and capabilities of older people. Its programs engage the talents and resources of all seniors from 55 to 95, and enable them to make their later years as productive and rewarding as possible, thereby encouraging good health. Elder Craftsmen's original program was a retail consignment outlet for older people to sell their handmade crafts. The shop was closed on June 30, 1994 and in the year following, Elder Craftsmen successfully completed a major strategic realignment which allowed it to focus on its training programs and community service programs.
