Causes: Civil Rights
Mission: Sumofus will organize consumers and citizens to pressure corporations to adopt policies that promote economic justice, the health and welfare of citizens and protection of the environment, in the nations in which these corporations operate. The organization focuses on campaigns that address ending corporate use of child labor and other unethical labor practices, promoting practices to curb global warming, protecting the environment and human rights, and promoting democracy and ending corruption.
Programs: Sumofus's 2017 program work consisted of a single program in which we mobilized online networks of consumers and citizens around the world around issues of corporate accountability. Just a few of the highlights include the following: engaging millions of people around the world in protesting corporate influence on the future of work, continued prevention of deforestation by pressuring major brands like pepsico to take responsibility for their palm oil supply chains, drawing attention to extreme energy projects (like the dakota access pipeline), and working for environmental protections throughout the world to safeguard bees and reduce the use of harmful chemicals (like roundup).
