Mission: The Education Policy & Issues Center is a collaborative effort of corporate, government, education, philanthropic and community leaders. Its purpose is to develop public policy strategies that result in long term changes for education systems, while its mission is to assure that every child achieves world-class skills in reading, writing, mathematics, and science. EPI Center believes that improving results in student achievement is critical to the surrounding region's vitality. As a result, it educates policy makers and the community using data regarding student performance, encourages districts to set high expectations for student performance and responds with technical assistance as appropriate.
Programs: Our work focuses on four strategic areas:
Strong Beginnings: connecting educational standards to the work of the Early Childhood Initiative to ensure that students leave the primary grades with strong basic skills. Competent Graduates: the region's vitality and economic development is directly connected to the workforce of the future.
Public Engagement & Information: providing information and support to school boards, parents, business and community leaders regarding academic standards.
Benchmarking & Reporting: reporting the progress the region is making toward getting all students to achieve high standards based on research-supported indicators.
