Mission: Elaccs mission is to advocate for economic and social justice in boyle heights and east los angeles by building grassroots leadership, developing affordable housing and neighborhood assets, and providing economic development opportunities to low and moderate income families.
Programs: Property management: 1. Operated portfolio of affordable housing units pending future redevelopment. Tenant services:1. Provided over 2,614 residents with fresh food and pantry items through elaccs mobile food pantry;2. Distributed over 65,350 pounds of food through monthly pantry, saving residents a combined total of $100,000;3. Enrolled over 50 youth in elaccs afterschool program, stars (sustainable tutoring and academic resources for students);4. Offered over 50 hours of free physical and social wellness activities for tenants and other community members, including yoga, aerobics and knitting.
real estate development & asset management:1. Completed construction and placed in operation 127 new affordable housing units;2. Opened whittier place apartments, a 25-unit affordable housing development in east los angeles made possible through a unique partnership with first 5 la and los angeles house of ruth, with 18 units dedicated to homeless families, 12 of which are set aside for families with children aged five years or younger; 3. Continued construction on 50 units of affordable housing;4. Ended the year with 452 units in our development pipeline.
community wealth:vita:1. Filed more than 500 free tax returns for low-income households, returning over $600,000 of refunds back to the community. Community wealth:2. Incorporated the first street community business association-boyle heights as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization and launched noches de serenata, with over 2,000 participants per month. Financial education:- hosted 26 financial education workshops for 435 participants. Lanzate matched savings programs:- opened 80 "lanzate" accelerated savings accounts. Homebuyer education and counseling:- prepared 203 future homeowners through our first time homebuyer workshops and one-on-one pre-purchase counseling.
