Mission: Dobson Ministries attends to the spiritual and emotional needs of residents of elder and childcare facilitiespeople who often feel very lonely. The organization supplies Bible and other religious audio and videotapes and other materials. It sends them to shut-ins in nursing homes and retirement centers. It also makes them available to children in orphanages and homeless shelters. In 1979 attorney Robert A. Dobson, Jr., responded to requests from elderly shut-ins (including his mother). Separated from church, community and family, they longed for someone to read the Bible and other religious materials to them. They wanted to hear the comforting words of Scripture. Underwritten by his son and now known as Dobson Ministries, the organization helps facility staff and volunteers and family members express love and care to residents. In 1998 Dobson Ministries likewise began supplying materials to children and youth in shelters and group homes. Dobson Ministries' goal is that no elderly or young resident of a care facility in the USA or Canada lack access to high quality, appropriate biblical resources.
