Mission: The Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island cultivates a sustainable and diverse cultural community for the people of Staten Island by: * Making the arts accessible to every member of the community. * Supporting and building recognition for artistic achievement. * Providing artists, organizations, and arts educators the technical, financial and social resources to encourage cultural production.
Results: --Teaching Artist Institute--training artists to go into the classroom and teach arts-based curriculum. This program began in 2010 in partnership with the Center for Arts Education and Sundog Theatre. --Folklife Program--working with heritage-bearers to promote unique forms of folk life, such as South American dance, Kente cloth weaving, Irish folk music, and Sri Lankan drumming. --Regrant Program--administering over $200,000 each year so artists and arts organization can offer arts programming to Staten Island. --Arts Advocacy--working with artists, organizations, community groups, and elected officials to strengthen public support for the arts. --Technical Assistance--offering one-on-one support, conferences, and workshops to artists and arts organizations so that they can hone professional skills.
Target demographics: COAHSI works hand-in-hand on arts and humanities projects with individual artists, community leaders, cultural and community-based organizations, large and small foundations and businesses, schools and governmental agencies.
