Mission: Conservation through Research Education and Action (CREA), established in January 2003, was founded by a group of educators and scientists who are concerned about the growing global environmental and human crisis. The greatest concentration of the planet´s biodiversity and natural resources that are of ultimate strategic importance for man´s existence, occur in the developing countries. Due to the implicit human developmental state of these nations, natural resource protection is often not a priority although it is an internationally recognized component of sustainable human development. CREA´s mission therefore is to conserve nature in the developing world through the sustainable and rational use of natural resources. CREA effects its mission through the promotion of ecological literacy and exchange of ideas among all sectors of society so that environmentally enlightened decisions ares made for the benefit of our and future generations.
Programs: CREA provides environmental education programs for poor rural and indigenous communities benefitting well over 500 people per year in developing countries. In addition our capacity building program allows developing nation professionals to develop their skills in natural resource protection and decision making. CREA also works with high school students from the U.S. who come to Panama to learn about development issues and provide community service. The organization intends to work with 5 different schools in the coming year.
