Mission: We work to end homelessness and the conditions that create it. We do it by helping communities become better problem solvers, so they can fix the expensive, badly designed systems that low income people must rely on every day.
Programs: National campaigns:built for zero (formerly zero: 2016) is a rigorous national change effort working to help a core group of committed communities end veteran and chronic homelessness. Coordinated by community solutions, the national effort supports participants in developing real time data on homelessness, optimizing local housing resources, tracking progress against monthly goals, and accelerating the spread of proven strategies.
inspiring places:the inspiring places team engages residents and key stakeholders in comprehensive neighborhood planning, better connecting existing assets through improved physical infrastructure, reactivating neglected buildings, and restoring parks and open spaces to create livelier, more active places for recreation and social connection.
brownsville partnership:the brownsville partnership engages residents and partner organizations from many sectors in measurably improving the health, safety and economic prosperity of the brownsville neighborhood of brooklyn. Coordinated by community solutions, the partnership builds on brownsville's considerable strengths to find solutions to its most pressing challenges.
hartford community partnership: the north hartford partnership is helping residents of north hartford, ct, turn their neighborhood around. Coordinated by community solutions and supported by a broad base of partners, the partnership works to improve the health and economic security of local residents and the physical conditions of the neighborhood simultaneously. Real estate projects: community solutions works with communities that lack adequate housing and community spaces to create or redevelop properties to meet these needs. Projects include the conway residence in washington dc and abrigo apartments in aurora co, which provide affordable housing for formerly homeless veterans, as well as the swift factory in hartford ct, which will serve as a food business incubator to provide jobs and financial stability in a low-income neighborhood. Fiscal sponsorships: community solutions supports young leaders with innovative ideas on solving social problems and allow them to use community solutions' tax exempt status to receive donations until they obtain their own 501c3 status. Fiscal sponsorees train low-income youth on multimedia and graphic design skills, advise catholic dioceses on using land for addressing social/environmental problems, and advise public sector agencies on solving operational challenges.
