community partnerships, outreach, and overcoming barriers to bicycling: the community cycling center engages community partners to adopt healthy active lifestyles by organizing rides, performing community surveys, advocating for safe bicycling in the community, and identifying projects needed to create equity in bicycle infrastructure. In 2013 we collaborated with community partners to operate a bicycle repair hub in the new columbia neighborhood. The hub provides support for low-cost bicycle repair, experiential learning, and is a gathering location for community rides. Adjacent to the hub, in 2013 the community cycling center worked with partners to construct a bicycle skills park. Both projects provide a location for community engagement and support for healthy activities. Community outreach included training bike educators to provide group ride support and low-cost bike repair to their communities. They performed 139 bike repairs and led 8 community group rides. We also provide bicycle safety outreach and events. Staff and volunteers promoted bicycle safety at dozens of community events and rides throughout portland.
